On September 14, U23 Vietnam held a professional meeting in Nagoya (Japan) to prepare for the first match in Group C of the ASIAD 2026 men's football event.
In addition to watching video footage, analyzing opponents and agreeing on tactical plans, the coaching staff and players will elect the team's leadership.
Accordingly, Pham Ly Duc holds the role of captain. The three vice-captains include Cao Van Binh, Nguyen Quoc Viet and Nguyen Thanh Nhan.
Ly Duc being chosen for the leadership position shows the trust from the coaching staff and teammates in this center-back. The player born in 2003 is a familiar face in the U23 Vietnam gatherings in recent times and has experience playing in many international youth tournaments.
In the center-back position, Ly Duc possesses good physique, ability to compete and is not afraid of collisions. At ASIAD 2026, he is expected to play an important role in the defense system of U23 Vietnam.
Meanwhile, the three vice-captains are also players with notable positions in the squad. Cao Van Binh holds the goalkeeper position, while Nguyen Quoc Viet and Nguyen Thanh Nhan have both appeared many times at all levels of the Vietnamese youth team.
After the professional meeting, U23 Vietnam continued to complete the final preparations before the opening match. In the afternoon of September 14, coach Dinh Hong Vinh and his team had their last training session and visited Nagoya City Minato stadium - where the matches in Group C took place.
According to the schedule, U23 Vietnam will meet Kuwait in the opening match on September 15. After that, the team will successively face the Philippines on September 18 and Uzbekistan on September 22.
