During the training session of the Vietnamese team at Viet Tri Stadium on the afternoon of December 5, the number of players was only 23. Previously, 7 names had to say goodbye after the personnel selection decision of head coach Kim Sang-sik.
Sharing his feelings after saying goodbye to his teammates after the training session, defender Thanh Chung said: “I myself have been in the same situation. But that was the coach’s decision. As a professional player, we always respect his decision.
Even though the players have left, they will continue to practice and improve themselves to wait for the next opportunity. It's sad, of course, but we never think about giving up."
Tomorrow morning (December 6), the team will leave for Laos to prepare for the opening match in Group B of the 2024 Southeast Asian Championship taking place at 8:00 p.m. on December 9.
Before the departure, Thanh Chung expressed: “The players always want fans to accompany and cheer for the Vietnamese team. The team has gone through many fierce matches and may still be doubted about its ability. But we always hope that the audience will come to the stadium in large numbers to cheer us on. The whole team always plays with the highest spirit of patriotism.”
He added that he has never won the Southeast Asian championship with the team, so he is very determined in this year's tournament.
