On the afternoon of November 11, at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho), midfielder Nguyen Xuan Son officially returned to the Vietnam national team and participated in the first training session with his teammates.
This is a training session to prepare for the match against Laos in the second leg of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. This training session also played for the first time in nearly a year, the striker born in 1997 returned to the national team.
Sharing before the training session, Xuan Son said: "Today is a very special day for me. Returning to the national team after 11 months makes me happy and proud. Family has always been my greatest spiritual support, helping me overcome the recent difficult times".
Xuan Son also sent his thanks to coach Kim Sang-sik and his teammates for welcoming him back.
"I told Mr. Kim and the whole team that I thank them for trusting and waiting for me. Wearing the national team jersey and contributing to the Fatherland is always a great honor," Xuan Son expressed.
Fans question whether Xuan Son will play in the upcoming match against Laos or not. The 28-year-old striker said: "I have fully recovered and am fit enough to play the full 90 minutes. For nearly a year, I have been working tirelessly to regain my best form.
The final decision depends on the head coach. If I have the opportunity to play, I will enjoy every moment on the field, try to score or assist, but the most important thing is that the Vietnamese team wins".
Before concluding the interview, Xuan Son thanked fans and affirmed that he would try his best to join the Vietnam team in the goal of winning a ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup finals.
