According to the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, this suspension is to complete the project and replace it more appropriately.
The Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee affirmed that the merger and reorganization of local press agencies when rearranging provincial-level administrative units will continue to be implemented and completed in accordance with the orientation and direction of the Central Government.
Previously, implementing Decision 362/QD-TTg dated April 3, 2019 of the Prime Minister on the National Press Development and Management Planning until 2025, in phase 1, Ho Chi Minh City (before the merger) has rearranged the press system in the direction of streamlining, through the conversion of governing agencies and operating models.
From the initial 27 agencies, the city still has 19 press agencies, including 7 press agencies (3 newspapers under the City Party Committee, 1 newspaper under the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, 1 newspaper under the City Youth Union and 2 religious newspapers), 1 radio station, 1 television station (under the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee), 7 magazines and 3 scientific magazines.
From July 1, 2025, 4 more press agencies of Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces will be transferred under Ho Chi Minh City, bringing the total number of press agencies of the city to 23, with more than 3,000 employees.
Currently, Binh Duong Newspaper and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Newspaper have merged into Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper.
Ho Chi Minh City also established Ho Chi Minh City Radio and Television Station after the arrangement of Ho Chi Minh City Television Station, Ho Chi Minh City People's Voice Station, Binh Duong Provincial Radio and Television Station, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Radio and Television Station.
