According to Lao Dong, overseas Vietnamese midfielder Chung Nguyen Do (Tran Thanh Trung) is on the list of players called up to the Vietnam U23 team by coach Kim Sang-sik.
Previously, the Korean coach attended the match between Ninh Binh and Dong A Thanh Hoa in round 2 of V.League 2025-2026 and Chung Nguyen Do was brought on in the middle of the second half.
Although appearing for a short time, the player born in 2005 has shown his current football thinking, personal technique and good vision.
After the match, Ninh Binh FC captain Gerard Albadalejo praised his student: "Chung Nguyen Do is a young player who is developing every day. He needs time to adapt to the Vietnamese weather and still has a chance to develop in the near future".
In the same position as Chung Nguyen Do at U23 Vietnam, there are many promising names such as Cong Phuong, Thai Son, Van Truong... Therefore, when joining the national team, this overseas Vietnamese midfielder will have to compete fiercely with his familiar teammates and have worked for a long time with coach Kim Sang-sik.
In addition to Chung Nguyen Do, the first 4 players to join the U23 Vietnam team were revealed to be goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien, midfielder Nguyen Van Truong, Viktor Le and Khuat Van Khang.
According to the draw results, U23 Vietnam is in Group C with U23 Bangladesh, U23 Singapore and U23 Yemen in the 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers. In which, U23 Vietnam is the host, the matches take place at Viet Tri Stadium, Phu Tho.
The 2026 U23 Asian qualifiers include 44 teams divided into 11 groups. The teams will compete in a round-robin format at the concentrated locations from September 1 to September 9, 2025.
The home team with 11 group winners and 4 best second-placed teams will qualify for the finals held in Saudi Arabia.
