After a 2-0 victory over Uzbekistan in the Yongchuan Chongqing 2024 international friendly tournament, the Vietnamese women's team entered the championship-deciding match against the host team China on the evening of October 29. Before that, Uzbekistan suffered a 0-3 defeat against China.
The Vietnamese women's team actively played a deep defensive game right after the opening whistle. This tactic meant that coach Mai Duc Chung's players did not have many opportunities to shoot at the Chinese team's goal.
On the other side of the front line, the home team China continuously dominated with high balls and created many opportunities in front of Kim Thanh's goal. After a series of attacks, the Chinese team also opened the score in the 41st minute when Zhang Xin received a cross, controlled the ball accurately and finished the goal.
Entering the second half, the Vietnamese women's team gradually controlled the ball better and created notable attacks. In the 51st minute, Truc Huong almost equalized with a smart move and a long-range shot, but the ball unfortunately hit the post. Other players such as Hai Yen and Van Su also actively attacked, but the opportunities passed one by one.
It seemed like the match would end with a score of 1-0, but in the 90+3 minute of extra time, the home team China scored the final goal, 2-0, after goalkeeper Kim Thanh's indecisiveness and an own goal from Thu Thao in an attempt to block the shot.
This result helped the Chinese women's team win the 2024 Yongchuan Chongqing International Friendly Championship. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese women's team won the runner-up position with 3 points after 1 win and 1 loss.
