Facing the team ranked 48th in the world, 11 places below the Vietnamese women's team on the FIFA rankings, coach Mai Duc Chung's team had a smooth start.
In the 4th minute, the Vietnamese women's team opened the score when Tuyet Dung's cross accidentally turned into a shot with an unpredictable trajectory.
With an early goal, the Vietnamese women's team played more confidently. In the 6th minute, Hai Yen dribbled the ball from Uzbekistan's left wing into the penalty area but her shot missed the post.
In the 20th minute, from a smooth combination in the middle, Bich Thuy's shot hit the Uzbekistan goalkeeper. In the 35th minute, the Vietnamese women's team scored a goal to raise the score to 2-0 thanks to Hai Yen after Bich Thuy's assist.
Three minutes later, the Vietnamese women's team almost raised the score to 3-0 when Van Su broke Uzbekistan's offside trap, but her shot went just wide of the post.
The remaining time saw personnel changes from both teams, but no more goals were scored.
Speaking after the match, coach Mai Duc Chung thanked the Chinese Football Federation for their hospitality as well as the warm welcome given to the Vietnamese women's team by the local organizing committee.
He also thanked the audience in Chongqing for coming to cheer for both the Vietnamese and Uzbekistan teams.
“We identified Uzbekistan as the opponent that will compete with Vietnam in the Asian region. So the team tried to compete and win.
I feel a bit regretful that the Vietnamese women's team has only had 10 days of preparation, so their playing style is not yet in sync. If we had a longer and better run-up, we could have scored 4 goals against Uzbekistan, instead of winning 2-0," said Mr. Chung.
