On the afternoon of December 5, coach Kim Sang-sik announced the list of Vietnam's team participating in the AFF Cup 2024 with 26 players.
Accordingly, the 7 players who said goodbye to the national team are goalkeeper Dang Van Lam, midfielders Nguyen Thai Son, Nguyen Van Truong, Tran Bao Toan, Phan Van Duc, strikers Nguyen Dinh Bac and Nguyen Quoc Viet.
Among these, the most regrettable case is that of goalkeeper Van Lam. According to Lao Dong's investigation, the Vietnamese-American goalkeeper suffered an injury to his left calf and did not recover before the tournament started.
Notably, this is not the first time Van Lam has suffered this injury. During the training session in Korea, after each training session, the goalkeeper of Phu Dong Ninh Binh always felt pain in his calf and needed the support of doctors and therapists.
However, he has not been able to regain his best form and had to miss this year's Southeast Asian Championship.
For the goalkeeper position, coach Kim Sang-sik chose 3 faces: Nguyen Filip, Nguyen Dinh Trieu and Tran Trung Kien. Of which, Filip and Dinh Trieu are regulars in the Vietnam team, while Trung Kien is wearing the national team jersey for the first time.
Previously, in the 3 friendly matches with Korean clubs, only Trung Kien did not play. It is likely that Mr. Kim wants to bring the young goalkeeper to the national team to gain experience and prepare for the goals next year.
The position in goal will be a fierce competition between Filip and Dinh Trieu, who are maintaining good form and have a lot of combat experience.
