Vietnam became the first team to qualify for the final of the 2024 ASEAN Cup after defeating Singapore with a total score of 5-1. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will face Thailand - the team that won 4-3 against the Philippines after 2 semi-final matches.
Similar to the semi-finals, the final also takes place in two home and away legs, without the away goals rule.
According to the schedule, the first leg of the final will take place at 8:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025 at Viet Tri Stadium (Phu Tho). The second leg of the final will take place at 8:00 p.m. on January 5, 2025, when the Vietnamese team will be guests at Rajamangala Stadium.
The confrontation between Vietnam and Thailand is considered the most anticipated final match in the regional tournament as the two teams are always rivals and have a lot of fate when facing each other.
This is the third time the Vietnamese team has faced Thailand in the final of an ASEAN Cup (formerly the AFF Cup). In the two previous meetings (2008 and 2022), the Vietnamese team won 1 (2008) and lost 1 (2022).
In this year’s tournament, the Vietnamese team has a new player, naturalized striker Nguyen Xuan Son. With this player’s high performance as well as the spirit of solidarity, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team are determined to win the championship of this year’s tournament.
Both final matches will be broadcast live on FPT Play.
