No more worries when away from home
The model of a self-managed group of workers' dormitories in Tra Vinh helps build a healthy and safe living environment, improve quality of life and strengthen solidarity.
Coming to Tra Vinh City to work for more than ten years, Ms. Thach Thi Ngoc Thi (Tra Cu, Tra Vinh) said that in her early years away from home, she had encountered a regrettable situation when her property was stolen because she rushed to work and forgot to lock the room door.
According to Ms. Thi, she felt uneasy living away from home and having an incident of losing property. However, since participating in the self-management group model, the safety situation has improved significantly, no longer theft as before.
"This model not only protects property and safety but also creates a friendly living environment where everyone shares and cares for each other. I felt like I was living in a second house, no longer lonely or worried when living away from home," Ms. Thi added.

Also a member of the self-management team of the workers' boarding house, Mr. Nguyen Van Khang (Tra Vinh) said that he felt very happy and joyful that every evening, after stressful working hours, the workers could gather together.
"The self-managed rental group has created a Zalo group to connect, easily share security information, incidents at the rental house as well as life at the rental house. Hopefully, we will expand more boarding houses, helping workers far from home have a safe and stable living environment," Mr. Khang added.

Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc (Head of the self-management team of the workers' boarding house at 68 Tra Vinh City) said that the team has proposed and been equipped by the landlord with a security camera system to help workers monitor the security situation directly from their mobile phones.
Mr. Phuc recounted that once when he discovered a suspicious person, the self-management team coordinated with members of the boarding house to prevent it in time. After that, the self-management team invited the subject out of the boarding house and reported the incident to the authorities.

Mr. Tran Quoc Viet - Vice Chairman of the Tra Vinh City Labor Federation - said that currently in Tra Vinh City, there are 3 self-management groups in the workers' dormitory with 15 members. Therefore, the propaganda work on policies and laws related to workers and laborers is more convenient.
According to Mr. Viet, thanks to the solidarity and enthusiasm of members of the self-management team, along with strict monitoring measures, the living environment in boarding houses has become safer, no longer theft or insecurity as before.
"In the coming time, the Labor Federation will continue to coordinate with the Long Duc Commune Police where there are many Boarding Houses to implement a similar model," Mr. Viet added.
