Famous Indian chef Ananya Banerjee (currently working at The Spice Route at The Imperial Hotel in New Delhi) shared that maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen is very important for the health of family members.
"In addition to preserving food, you also need to make sure there are no pests, especially cockroaches to avoid potential damage," said chef Banerjee.
To do this, regular cleaning may not be enough, because harmful insects can thrive in hidden corners that are difficult to detect.
Ms. Ananya Banerjee said that food pollution caused by cockroaches can cause stomach problems, indigestion and even infections in the worst case scenario.
To eliminate them, it is necessary to combine cleaning, natural discharge and preventive measures:
1. Maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen
Regularly clean the kitchen with vinegar and water (scale 1: 100) to remove food particles and odor. Avoid dropping food or food on the kitchen surface or hidden corners of the kitchen. Store food in closed containers to avoid attracting cockroaches.
2. Use natural detergents
Dried bay leaves: Place dried bay leaves in the kitchen cabinets; the characteristic smell of bay leaves has the effect of repelling cockroaches.
Indian neem leaves or Indian neem oil: Has natural insectiv repellent properties. You can place neem leaves in the kitchen cabinet or mix neem oil with water and spray it in areas where it is necessary.
Cloves and cinnamon: Their strong scent can effectively repel cockroaches.
boric acid and sugar: Sprinkle some boric acid and sugar powder into hidden corners and away from food, which can help kill cockroaches.
3. block off locations where crabs can take shelter
Check and cover cracks or gaps around the drawers and kitchen cabinets to prevent cockroaches from entering.
4. Set traps and insect repellent
Use roe dung in places far from the food source to limit the growth of cockroaches in the kitchen.
By following these simple tips, you will help prevent the appearance of cockroaches and maintain a clean and safe kitchen.
