Here are personal lessons from the editors of Homes & Gardens, a prestigious interior magazine founded in 1919 based in the UK.
Dark carpet
Jennifer Ebert, a interior editor, once chose a black carpet for the living room, but soon realized that was a mistake. Dark carpets are not only easy to expose to dust and animal fur, but it is also difficult to determine whether they have been cleaned or not.
"Now I only use light-colored carpets, which are easier to clean," she shared.
Some popular carpet materials are velvet, synthetic fiber, wool... which are resistant to dirt and are durable.
fixed L-shaped sofa
Editor Katrina Harper-Lewis once invested in an immobile L-shaped sofa. Although suitable for the original apartment, this item became bulky, not suitable for the new space after rearranging the escalator room or moving the house.
"The price I choose is the modular sofa that can change the layout," she regrets. The lesson is to choose flexible furniture, easy to rearrange when moving.

Carpets are expensive but too small
Zara Sta Sta Sta Sta Sta Sta, a magazine editor, once had a crush on a handmade carpet, but when placed in a room, it looked lost and small on a large lot. She advised the homeowner to always measure carefully before buying, use gauge and tape to mark the actual carpet size on the floor before deciding.
Grided bricks
Charlotte Olby, a style editor, once invested in tiled kitchen floors with terracotta because she loved their rustic beauty. However, this is a "nhuyen" in cleaning. Even though it has been permeated with many layers, the bricks are still easily drained with water, making it difficult to remove stains.
vintage interior
Hebe Hatton, head of interior design, loves the classic look of a pair of French bedside tables, but when used, he discovered that the tables were too high and small.
They are not suitable for new bedrooms and are difficult to reuse in other spaces. The lesson she learned is that when buying antique items, you need to carefully measure and calculate the actual function, not buy just for looks.
