Born and raised like any other child, little boy Dao Huu Hanh had a childhood full of hopes and dreams. But at the age of 10, a high fever took away Hanh's ability to move.
Paralysis in both legs changed Hanh's life forever. From a healthy boy, Hanh had to face pain, self-consciousness, pitying looks, and teasing from those around him.
Hanh's illness got worse over the years, even though she had sought treatment in many places. The family's finances also declined because of this. Hanh tried to finish 12th grade, then stayed home to receive treatment and help her parents sell goods.
Luckily, he found an understanding woman, got married and had children, but life was full of hardships and difficulties. However, he still had a big dream - one day he would be able to live a free life, take care of himself, and not depend on anyone.
In 2017, the opportunity came to Mr. Hanh through "Media to narrow the gap", a media project for people with disabilities organized by the Center for Will to Live and funded by UNDP.
This is a program that enables disabled people like Mr. Hanh to tell their own stories through film.
Dao Huu Hanh shared: "At that time, I just thought I was making a small film about my life, but I didn't expect it to be a big turning point. Not only did I meet friends in the same situation, but I was also inspired by examples of overcoming adversity like me. It was a door that opened up a new world that I had never thought of."
The short film "Waking Up on the Roof" by Mr. Hanh not only left an impression on viewers but also conveyed a strong message about determination and resilience. The film is a journey to regain confidence, overcome social prejudices and live a meaningful life.
After joining the project, Mr. Hanh continued to pursue his passion for video editing at the Will to Live Center and it was here that he learned the skills to have a stable job.
From a person who could not walk on his own, Dao Huu Hanh has now become a professional Video Editor, contributing to media products and helping people in similar situations.
The new job not only helps Mr. Hanh have a stable life to take care of himself and his family, but also opens up opportunities for personal development.
Together with his companions at the Will to Live Center, Mr. Hanh builds a strong community of people with disabilities, creating positive impacts and helping each other to rise up in life.
In the program "Love Station" with the theme "Crossing the threshold", the audience will listen to emotional stories, not only of Mr. Dao Huu Hanh but also of his colleagues and friends who share the same fate with him on the path to finding freedom and success.
The program is not only an exchange, but also a strong message: With love, we can overcome all our limits and reach new horizons.
The courageous story of Mr. Dao Huu Hanh and his colleagues will be broadcast at 10:00 on December 28 on VTV1 channel.
