Long was born normally like many other children in a family of 4 sisters, his parents are farmers. The incident happened in 2003, when Long was 16 years old, preparing to enter 10th grade.
While climbing a tree, Pham Sy Long unfortunately fell and suffered a cervical vertebrae. That injury left him unable to move, and his limbs became increasingly crooked. Although his parents took him to all over for treatment, he still could not escape the disabled situation.
Since lying in one place, Pham Sy Long has also faced other diseases such as: necrosis due to lying in one place, having to have his thigh cut for treatment, broken leg, broken arm, having to be hospitalized for emergency care, and poisoning. Painful and helpless, he once thought he was a victim of society.
Remembering the time when I was helpless, self-conscious for myself and there were times when I poured out my anger on my mother, Pham Sy Long's eyes widened: "There was a time when I wanted to end my life, I broke my belongings while my mother was taking care of me. Then I saw my mother suffering because I was so much, gradually I thought more positively. I started singing to relieve my psychological stress....
Once watching TV and seeing a disabled person writing with his feet, Pham Sy Long uocished he could write. People who don't have hands write with their feet, and you don't have both hands and feet, so you write with your mouth.
Not only stopping at writing or drawing, Pham Sy Long began to think about bigger goals. In 2010, Mr. Long started writing an oral memoir, nearly 800 pages about his life. In 2013, with the support of philanthropists, Pham Sy Long published the poetry collection "Mien Aspiration" with 32 poems and in 2020, published the long story "Khong the chi mo".
With the desire to inspire young people with disabilities, he also opened a support class for people in the same situation, helping them confidently integrate and have jobs through the "S born of the Voice Within You" Club. Many people come to Pham Sy Long not only to learn some basic skills in communication and presentation but also to listen to him inspire life.
Sharing about his plans for the future, Mr. Pham Sy Long said that he will continue his journey of inspiring more people, especially young people and people with disabilities who always feel confident about themselves, helping them to rise up in life.
