Before the video recording DJ Ximer beating his wife, many videos of the husband brutally beating his wife were widely shared on social media platforms.
The image of women being brutally beaten right in their own homes, even in front of their young children, has always angered public opinion.
According to the report on the results of implementing national goals on gender equality in 2023, there were 3,240 cases of domestic violence, of which physical violence was the most common form, followed by mental violence, economic violence and sexual violence.
Of the victims, 82.3% were female. Although the number of cases of violence has decreased slightly, domestic violence still occurs secretly, becoming a burning issue in society
Speaking to Lao Dong reporter, Ms. Nguyen Van Anh - Director of the Center for Research and Application of Science on Gender, Family, Women and Adults (CSAGA) - commented that the ideology of male dominance, patriarchy and bullying still exists, and violence will still occur.
"There are many reasons for the violence between husband and wife. The influence of family education and the surrounding cultural environment are all factors that can make them think that they are allowed to be violent. Maybe in the past, they were victims of violence, witnessed violence, and when angry, they used violence to control others," Ms. Nguyen Van Anh shared.
Experts point out that many women are stuck in toxic marriages but cannot divorce. Some people are even used to the attacks and hope that tomorrow will be different.
"However, the cycle of violence is accelerating and repeating. The wife hopes that her husband will change. Many husbands apologize to their wives after the violence just because they feel annoyed, but if they do not change their point of view, the apology is just a stage in the cycle of violence. Some people can apologize 100 times," she affirmed.
In fact, many people who are victims of violence are reluctant to accept, afraid of being disciplined and do not want to report because they are afraid of "plying clothes on the back of those who watch".

Many victims of abuse not only have physical pain but also face negative emotions for a long time, possibly suffering from mental illness such as depression or anxiety disorder.
However, many victims of domestic violence do not realize that they are being abused or even recognize it but choose to stay silent, hide, endure and live for a long time.
Meanwhile, the legal system still has some limitations, not ready to protect women, giving them the belief that if they end their marriage, they will be supported.
Therefore, most people who are victims of violence only report and seek support from authorities when the incident is serious, the violence occurs over a long period of time or can lead to a marriage breakdown.
This causes difficulties in data statistics as well as the implementation of solutions and services to support, intervene and respond to violence.
"Not all supporters are skilled enough to work with victims, and victim support systems are not available everywhere. In addition, the silence of witnesses around also made the violent act unstoppable," Ms. Nguyen Van Anh assessed.
