On the morning of September 24, at a meeting with the Salavan Provincial Federation of Labor (Laos), Mr. Nguyen The Lap - Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial Federation of Labor affirmed that he was determined to make the cooperative relationship between the two provinces increasingly in-depth, effective and practical.
Speaking to the Salavan Provincial Trade Union Delegation, Mr. Nguyen The Lap emphasized that the visit took place at a special time, when Quang Tri has just implemented the policy of merging provincial-level administrative units, forming a political system at 2 levels: provincial and commune level. This is an important step to streamline the apparatus, promote resources, and better care for the lives of people and workers.
According to the Chairman of the Provincial Federation of Labor, this arrangement also requires innovation of the trade union organization. If there were 4 levels before, the trade union system now has only 3 levels: Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Provincial Federation of Labor and grassroots trade unions. The main gathering subjects focus on workers in enterprises, industrial parks and autonomous public service units.
Mr. Nguyen The Lap said that the whole province currently has nearly 90,000 workers and laborers with more than 700 grassroots unions, gathering nearly 45,000 union members, a decrease of about 1,500 grassroots unions and 40,000 union members compared to before the merger. In that context, trade unions must make even more efforts to innovate to truly be a support for workers.
In recent years, the Quang Tri Provincial Federation of Labor has focused on many key tasks such as: participating in building social security policies, promoting dialogue and collective bargaining, signing collective labor agreements at 81% of enterprises, taking care of union members' welfare through the programs "Tet Sum Vay", "Worker's Month", "Union Shelter", "Union Meal" ...
The work of gathering workers, improving the quality of grassroots union cadres, launching patriotic emulation movements associated with the task of local socio-economic development is focused on.
Regarding the direction for the coming time, the Chairman of the Provincial Federation of Labor emphasized the task of perfecting the two-level trade union organization, preparing for the grassroots trade union congress and the first provincial trade union congress for the 2025-2030 term.
At the same time, the Provincial Federation of Labor will continue to promote the application of digital technology, reduce administrative waste, and bring trade unions closer to union members and workers.
At the talks, the Standing Committee of the Quang Tri Provincial Federation of Labor and the Salavan Provincial Federation of Labor will discuss and agree on a number of cooperation contents in the coming time: maintaining the tradition of solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos; strengthening propaganda and education for union members and workers to respect the laws of the two countries; organizing rotations of working groups to visit and exchange experiences every two years.
