Income from employment is a deciding factor in starting a family
At the 50th anniversary of its founding (1975-2025) held on the afternoon of September 27, the Southern Region Institute of Science announced the results of a survey on the population and human resources of Vietnam and the Southern provinces in 2024 - 2025.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Nhung, representative of the research group, said that the results were conducted on an online survey of nearly 257,000 people aged 18 to 60 in 63 provinces and cities of Vietnam in August 2024.
Accordingly, the trend of single or single and unwanted to have children is becoming more and more popular among young people, especially in urban areas.
The research results show that 63.7% want to get married and have children in the future, but 22.2% of single people surveyed responded that they have no intention of getting married and do not want to have children.
According to the research team, there are 4 main factors affecting marriage decisions, which are: Income from employment, working conditions, housing conditions and health status. In which, income from employment is a decisive factor.
In addition to income from employment as a factor that commonly affects the decision to have children at all age groups, factors such as working conditions, housing conditions, and health status greatly affect the decision to have children in the age group of 40 years old and under.
"It can be seen that people aged 40 and under, especially 30 and under, are more interested in their jobs, income, expectations in work, and settlement than other purposes (including marriage and children).
Regulations on the minimum living wage for a family of 4
From the analysis of the survey results, the research team recommended that the State should have policies to increase social responsibility for single people, those who do not want to get married and do not intend to have children.
At the same time, encourage early marriage with specific solutions such as personal income tax exemption, in addition to family deductions for couples or individuals who are raising 2 children (under 5 years old) or having 2 children within 5 years applied to all subjects; get a non-interest-bearing bank loan to buy a house for couples or individuals raising 2 children (under 5 years old) or having 2 children within 5 years.
"It is necessary to stipulate the minimum living wage for a family of 4, change the minimum wage to stipulate the minimum living wage for a family of 4. This means that the two working people have enough income to raise and educate their two children well, for all residential groups, Dr. Nhung emphasized.
