A gas explosion occurred at a sauna in Yangju City, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, injuring 28 people. The incident was reported at 10:17 a.m. on September 27 inside a dry tea room, about 25km north of Seoul.
According to the Gyeonggi Provincial Fire Department, the pressure from the explosion caused the entire building to be used as a fire room to collapse. Many people present at the scene panicked and were forced to evacuate urgently to ensure safety.
Of the 28 injured victims, three were identified as serious, including an employee and two customers using the service. The remaining people suffered minor injuries and were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
Korean media quoted the authorities as saying that the investigation into the cause of the explosion is underway. Rescue forces were quickly deployed to search, support the victims and blockade the area to ensure safety.
The Yangju explosion continues to ring the bell warning of the risk of accidents related to gas in crowded service facilities, and at the same time requires tightening fire safety in Korea.
