The Khmer Times quoted a statement from the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense as saying that at 11:52 am on September 27, Thai soldiers suddenly opened fire with mortars and guns at the Cambodian army position in the An Ses area, near the border.
As of the time of the announcement, the Thai side has not yet stopped the shooting. The Cambodian army has restrained itself to the maximum and has not responded, Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, a spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of Defense, stressed.
Cambodia affirmed that it always respects the bilateral ceasefire agreement and wishes to cooperate closely with Thailand at all levels to quickly restore peace and stability in the border area. The Cambodian Ministry of National Defense also called on Thailand to "seriously implement and respect the ceasefire agreement".
Meanwhile, The Nation newspaper (Thailand) reported the opposite: At around 12:03 noon on the same day, the new Cambodian forces were the first to set off the fire, using personal machine guns to target Thai soldiers in the Chong An Ma area, Nam Yuen district, Ubon Ratchathani province.
According to this source, the Thai army fired back, and accused Cambodia of continuing to use bombs to attack Thai checkpoints. Currently, Thai forces are still responding to the fire, the situation has not been completely controlled.
Although there are no statistics on casualties, both sides confirmed that the sides have violated the ceasefire agreement, increasing the risk of a new military conflict at the sensitive Thailand - Cambodia border.
