In 2025, one of the important changes of Lao Dong Newspaper is becoming a public service unit directly under the Vietnam Fatherland Front according to Decision 21a/QD-MTTW-BTT, under the dual leadership and direction of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, regularly and directly the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL); under state management for press and publishing by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This has created a new mechanism, expanded the scope of operation and higher requirements for information and propaganda quality, while bringing many opportunities and challenges for the Newspaper in innovation and development.
Achievements in 2025
One of the outstanding achievements of Lao Dong Newspaper in 2025 is the impressive increase in the number of news articles. The newspaper continues to focus on news articles about trade unions, workers and laborers, accounting for a large proportion of the total number of articles published. This is clear evidence of the newspaper's concern and vivid reflection of political, economic, social activities and especially issues related to workers.
In particular, from June 2025, Lao Dong Newspaper has opened the "Front" column, actively contributing to propaganda about patriotic emulation movements and action programs of the Vietnam Fatherland Front. This column has attracted special attention from a large number of readers, affirming the Newspaper's position in implementing the Front's propaganda work.
In addition, Lao Dong Newspaper is also always a pioneer in protecting the rights of workers. In the past year, the newspaper has implemented tens of thousands of news articles about trade unions, workers and laborers. Among them, 19 series of successful articles have successfully protected the rights of hundreds of workers, teachers and laborers in provinces and cities, bringing in a value of billions of VND.
A highlight in 2025 is that Lao Dong Newspaper has won a total of 50 awards, including 27 domestic press awards (including 3 national press awards, 1 press award on anti-corruption, and awards from ministries and branches); 23 international press photo awards. These achievements not only reflect the efforts in professional work but also demonstrate the continuous dedication of the team of reporters and editors of the Newspaper.
2025 also witnessed the strong development of Lao Dong Newspaper on digital platforms. In November 2025, a survey delegation of digital transformation activities of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism surveyed Lao Dong Newspaper, highly appreciating the maturity in digital transformation of the Newspaper. In 2025, Lao Dong Newspaper continued to be ranked excellent, ranking second in digital transformation among central press agencies. This is the third consecutive year that Lao Dong Newspaper has been in the list of leading in digital transformation.
In March 2025, the Newspaper officially received a new task assigned by the General Confederation: upgrading and operating the Vietnam Trade Union Electronic Information Portal. By June 2025, the Newspaper had completed the Beta version with 6 languages (Vietnamese, English, Korean, Spanish, Japanese, French), automatic translation using artificial intelligence; setting up a Chatbot tool for automatic legal advice; building a new interface for the e-Portal, adding more information groups on the direction and administration of the Standing Committee of the Presidium, building a digital database of guiding and directing documents of the General Confederation...
This is the affirmation of Lao Dong Newspaper in the digital transformation and development of multi-platform media. The Newspaper's social network channels also have strong growth.
Besides outstanding achievements, Lao Dong Newspaper also faced many difficulties in 2025. One of the biggest difficulties is the sharp decline of print newspapers due to mergers and streamlining of the Trade Union system. In addition, Lao Dong Newspaper also faced increasingly fierce competition for information from digital platforms and social networks. Digital transformation requires large financial resources.
Firmly move forward
Despite many difficulties, Lao Dong Newspaper has set out clear directions and tasks for 2026. First of all, the editorial office will continue to maintain and promote the achievements in protecting the rights of workers, and at the same time continue to expand new columns to improve the quality of propaganda.
Regarding the content, from the beginning of 2026, Lao Dong Newspaper will focus on building in-depth articles; strengthen multimedia products to serve propaganda for the 14th Party Congress, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Congress, the Vietnam Trade Union Congress, the 16th National Assembly election and People's Councils at all levels; continue to widely implement Resolution No. 02-NQ/TW of the Politburo on innovating the organization and operation of the Vietnam Trade Union in the new situation.
Continue to promote digital transformation, apply artificial intelligence (AI), optimize work and improve content production efficiency.
The newspaper will continue to complete new assigned tasks, including the operation of the Vietnam Trade Union Electronic Information Portal and the development of digital services, improving the efficiency of social work and community support activities.
Speaking at the 2026 Conference of Officials and Employees of Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour acknowledged and praised the outstanding results that the Newspaper has achieved in 2025. At the same time, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour Nguyen Xuan Hung also requested Lao Dong Newspaper to focus on a number of key orientations, including maintaining the political and social identity of Lao Dong Newspaper: accurate, timely information; increasing orientation, combativeness, humanity; and continuing to firmly hold the leading position in protecting the legitimate and lawful rights of employees.
In addition, digital transformation must go hand in hand with "content transformation" and "organization transformation". Technology and artificial intelligence are important tools, but the ultimate goal is to create high-quality journalistic products, with leading public opinion value, beneficial to workers and trade union organizations; and at the same time, especially value information security and safety.
Lao Dong Newspaper needs to continue to perform well the tasks assigned by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, and at the same time proactively propose new ways to increase propaganda efficiency and increase the spread of trade union organizations in the digital environment" - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour Nguyen Xuan Hung emphasized.
The direction and tasks for 2026 are set out with many important goals, aiming to continue to affirm the role of Lao Dong Newspaper in protecting the rights of workers and contributing to the cause of national construction.
