Dialogue from the heart, building a safe and warm working environment
In the handbag and garment export manufacturing industry, the characteristics of complex machinery operation and high labor density always pose a major problem for labor safety (ST). For Mr. Le Hoan Giang, protecting workers is not simply equipping a mask or standard gloves. He is always concerned and believes that a modern working environment, minimizing harm, is the core and most sustainable value that the Trade Union organization needs to negotiate with business owners.
To realize that goal, Mr. Giang and the Executive Committee (EC) of the grassroots Trade Union have established a multi-channel, flexible and proactive dialogue mechanism. Not stopping at the annual periodic Workers' Conference, he maximizes the suggestion box system along with listening sessions and direct exchanges right at the production floor.
We do not sit in one place waiting for workers to complain. The Trade Union proactively seeks out "hot spots" of noise, dust or potential safety risks. From there, the Trade Union promptly works with functional departments to overcome them immediately, and at the same time frankly dialogues with the Board of Directors if they see the need for major changes" - Mr. Giang shared.
Thanks to that spirit of listening from the heart, Sedo Vinako Company not only fully equipped labor protection but also invested a large budget in a periodic environmental measurement and inspection system, upgraded factory infrastructure to reduce emissions and noise. In particular, he successfully negotiated to increase the unit price of lunch meals from 18,000 VND to 20,000 VND, supplemented gasoline allowance of 100,000 VND/person/month, maintained a regular system of employee shuttle buses and many other regimes to care for the material and spiritual life of more than 5,000 union members.
Unleashing creativity from "hot bonus" policies and a humane space
In the period 2023 - 2025, when businesses promoted technological transformation and modernization of machinery, Mr. Le Hoan Giang and the Executive Committee of the grassroots Trade Union skillfully negotiated and developed the Practical Initiative Reward Regulation (Kaizen), turning technical improvement into a voluntary movement and a close right of each worker.
All good ideas and improvement proposals from workers, no matter what level, are immediately "hot bonused" by the Trade Union with 100,000 VND upon receipt. For highly effective initiatives, quarterly prizes up to 1,000,000 VND and annual prizes up to 2,500,000 VND with certificates of merit.
“We are negotiating to have the Board of Directors not only reward cash but also support all material and machinery costs for brothers to test ideas. All results are public and transparent on the bulletin board and internal application” - Mr. Giang affirmed. Thanks to that, each year Kaizen initiatives have benefited the business hundreds of millions of VND.
In particular, the humanistic imprint of this trade union official is also shown through the campaign to build a modern worker library right at the factory with more than 5,000 books. This has become a "quiet space" of knowledge to help workers relax and regenerate labor after stressful working hours.
With persistent contributions, Mr. Le Hoan Giang was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the complete trust and love of more than 5,000 union members - a typical role model for trade union officials in the new era: Courage in negotiation, dedication in care and creativity in action.
