Spreading childhood festivals
In the last days of May, the atmosphere of welcoming International Children's Day June 1st took place sôi nổi in many localities and units. Where there are Trade Union organizations, there are activities to care for children of union members and workers. In Dai Loc commune, Da Nang, the Commune Trade Union presented 26 gifts, each worth 1 million VND, to poor, near-poor children, those with dangerous diseases and those in particularly difficult circumstances. The gifts not only provide material support but also send encouragement and sharing to the children.
Also in Da Nang, the Trade Union of Tam Tri Quang Nam General Hospital (under Nam Phuoc Commune Trade Union) organized the program "Happy Children's Tet 1.6" for children of officials, employees, and workers. Children participated in games, received gifts, held parties and were commended if they achieved excellent academic achievements in the past school year.
Not only in Da Nang, many localities also organized activities to care for workers' children on International Children's Day June 1. In Thai Nguyen, the Provincial Labor Federation presented gifts to children of disabled workers in difficult circumstances. In Cao Bang, many organizations and unions presented milk, bicycles, and school supplies to children in remote and isolated areas. The Vietnam Post Trade Union also launched activities to respond to the Action Month for Children, focusing on equipping digital skills and protecting children in the online environment.
These diverse activities show that child care is increasingly being concerned by trade union levels in a more comprehensive direction. Not only bringing joy on holidays, the programs also contribute to protecting, educating and creating conditions for workers' and laborers' children to develop better.
Accompanying children of workers all year round
Notably, the greatest value of trade unions caring for children of union members and workers today lies not only in the gifts for holidays, but is also clearly shown in the models of year-round and long-term companionship with children of workers. Typically in Ho Chi Minh City, trade union levels in the city have maintained the "Wings of Dreams" scholarship program for children of union members who lost their father or mother due to the COVID-19 epidemic for many years. In the recent scholarship award alone, the total cost of support and gifts has reached 385 million VND.
In Da Nang, every year, the City Labor Federation maintains activities to commend and award scholarships to children of workers and civil servants who study well and overcome difficulties with an average amount of about 500 million VND/year.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, a worker at a business in Da Nang, whose child is receiving support from the local trade union's care program, emotionally said: "Every time my child receives a scholarship or encouragement gift from the trade union, the family is very happy. The most precious thing is not material value but the feeling that our child is cared for, encouraged to study hard. That helps us have more motivation to stick with our work.
Especially recently, Nam Phuoc Commune Trade Union (Da Nang) has built the Club "Wings of Dreams - For the Future of Children of Union Members and Workers" in the direction of socialization. To date, 11 grassroots trade unions and the Club Steering Committee have sponsored 15 disadvantaged children with a total support budget of 90 million VND.
Many children need long-term companionship to have conditions to continue going to school. Therefore, the Commune Trade Union has mobilized social resources to sponsor and support them for many years" - Ms. Lam Thi Vy - Chairwoman of Nam Phuoc Commune Trade Union - shared.
When the lives of workers are still under a lot of pressure, taking care of the children of workers is one of the most practical and sustainable ways to care for them.
