Life Insurance for Workers
Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company (Da Nang Port) is a subsidiary of Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC), primarily operating in the field of port business and related fields, with nearly 1,000 union members and workers.
According to Mr. Le Tan Minh, Chairman of Da Nang Port Trade Union, in general, the policies and benefits created by Da Nang Port for union members and workers are similar to those of most other companies in Da Nang and nationwide.
However, one policy that can be said to be "unique to Da Nang Port" and not many companies have is the health insurance policy for workers. For example, from 2022, with the advice of the Trade Union, Da Nang Port organized a survey of all workers and added a welfare benefit to the Collective Labor Agreement, which is to purchase life insurance for all workers.
With this very humane purpose, to date, approximately 613 workers who meet the conditions (seniority, work experience) have been registered by Da Nang Port to purchase life insurance for a period of 10 years. Currently, the total value of the life insurance contract for one year of Da Nang Port is approximately 12 billion VND.
Da Nang Textile and Garment Joint Stock Company (29/3, Thanh Khê District) with a feature of over 80% female workers, has prioritized policies to meet the needs and legitimate aspirations of female workers.
Chairman of the Trade Union of the company, Le Thi Hai Chau, said: "As a textile company, the company pays attention to and listens to the needs of female workers, creates conditions for female workers to work during pregnancy and childcare; regularly examines pregnant workers, provides allowances for workers caring for young children, and provides timely support to workers in difficult situations. In addition, the company regularly takes the opinions of workers on food, changes the food that workers do not like, changes personal protective equipment when it is not suitable.".
Many favorable terms for workers
According to Mr. Le Van Dai, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang Labor Union, thanks to the efforts of trade union negotiations at all levels, the quality of Collective Labor Agreements in Da Nang has improved significantly, with many favorable terms for workers compared to legal regulations. The terms focus on practical commitments such as: food quality and value; housing support, productivity bonuses, rest time; wages, bonuses, and policies for female workers.
From the beginning of the year to date, the city's trade unions have focused on directing and guiding grassroots trade unions to negotiate and sign Collective Labor Agreements with enterprises. Grassroots trade unions have proposed negotiations and signed 12 new Collective Labor Agreements and proposed negotiations to increase meal allowances to 20,000 VND or more for 46 grassroots trade unions.
In the first 7 months of the year, 100% of administrative and public service units organized conferences for cadres, civil servants, and officials, and established inspection committees, 68% of enterprises and public service units organized worker conferences, 851 units organized regular and irregular dialogue sessions. Through dialogue, many worker opinions have been listened to and resolved.
In addition, the city's labor union has focused on improving the capacity and skills of grassroots trade union officials. The city's trade union has organized training and capacity-building courses for grassroots trade union officials, focusing on negotiation and dialogue skills. This has helped trade union officials improve their knowledge of the Labor Code, the Trade Union Code, and fulfill their role as representatives of workers' rights, meeting the trust and expectations of workers.
