Chairman of Vietnam General Confederation of Labour holds talks with Chairman of Lao Trade Union Federation Central Committee

In the afternoon of August 16, Comrade Nguyen Anh Tuan - Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor held talks with Comrade Khamphoy Vanasan, Member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, Chairman of the Lao Federation of Trade Unions (LFTU).

The talks were attended by Comrade Khamphao Ernthavanh, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to Vietnam.

On the LFTU side, there were Comrade Bounchan Chayesan, Chief of Office of the LFTU; Comrade Fongkham Keungvikham, Head of the LFTU Movement Committee; Comrade Chanthavon Aphayalath, Deputy Chief of Office of the LFTU; Comrade Chanthalom Law, Secretary of the President of the LFTU.

On the side of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor were comrade Thai Thu Xuong, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; comrade Tong Van Bang, Head of the Labor Relations Department of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; comrade Nguyen Minh Dung, Acting Head of the Trade Union Affairs Department of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; comrade Ha Thi Phuong Thao, Deputy Head of the Trade Union Affairs Department of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; comrade Tran Huu, Deputy Head of the Trade Union Affairs Department of the General Confederation of Labor.

Speaking at the high-level talks between the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and LFTU, Comrade Nguyen Anh Tuan said he was very pleased to welcome the high-level delegation of LFTU to visit and work in Vietnam on the occasion of the two countries celebrating important events in Vietnam-Laos relations: the 49th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Vietnam and Laos (July 18, 1977 - July 18, 2026) and the 64th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos (September 5, 1962 - September 5, 2026). This is also Comrade Khamphoy Vanasan's first foreign trip in his new position, showing his respect for the relationship between trade unions of the two countries.

Comrade Khamphoy Vanasan - Chairman of LFTU expressed his deep gratitude to the Party and State leaders and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor for creating all favorable conditions for trade union relations between the two countries in the past time.

Comrade Khamphoy Vanasan briefly informed about the socio-economic situation of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in the past time. Currently, the Lao People's Democratic Republic has 7.8 million people, laborers aged 15 and over are about 5.3 million people, of which laborers in the agricultural sector are 1.4 million people, the industrial sector is more than 2.5 million people... LFTU has 1 office, 8 departments, 1 Trade Union Development Academy.

Comrade Khamphoy Vanasan affirmed that in the past time, with the help of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, LFTU has increasingly developed and improved its trade union work capacity.

Regarding the direction of cooperation between trade unions of the two countries in the coming time, Comrade Khamphoy Vanasan proposed building a more specific cooperation program between trade unions of the two countries; Vietnam General Confederation of Labor creates conditions to receive LFTU officials to study in Vietnam...

Agreeing with the opinions and proposals of Comrade Khamphoy Vanasan, Comrade Nguyen Anh Tuan said that after the 14th Congress, the Vietnam Trade Union has 5 major innovations: Innovating the organizational model of the apparatus; focusing on innovating trade union operating methods; focusing on comprehensive digital transformation in organization and operation; developing trade unions in non-state enterprises, the informal sector...; innovating trade union financial management to build sustainable trade union finance, better care for the welfare of union members.

Regarding the direction of cooperation between trade unions of the two countries in the coming time, Comrade Nguyen Anh Tuan proposed 5 main contents in the period from now to 2028: Continue to effectively implement the 2023-2028 cooperation agreement, with a summary assessment in 2027; Vietnam General Confederation of Labor agrees to receive training for LFTU officials; support research on economic cooperation models to generate revenue for trade unions of the two countries on the basis of coordinating surveys, research, and proposing specific models; Vietnam Trade Union is ready to provide technical and human support for LFTU to submit to the Lao National Assembly for promulgation of the Trade Union Law; promote the relationship between the industry trade union system, localities under the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and LFTU (Lao Dong Newspaper and Hengan Newspaper, Trade Union University and Lao Trade Union Development Academy).
