“Happy Tet”, “Happy New Year to your family”, “Goodbye, sister”… - the wishes of the workers after traveling together for 30 hours from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh City signaled that the mission of the “Union Train - Spring 2025” organized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to bring workers in difficult circumstances and their relatives home to celebrate Tet had been completed.
"O is here to pick me up, Mom," the voice of Nguyen Thi Suong's daughter (from Nghe An) rang out in front of the train station, then she ran to hug her family.
“It’s been 2 years since I’ve been home for Tet, and neither have my children. I work as a medical staff at Thu Duc Hospital, my salary is average, just enough to take care of my family in daily life, not much extra, so I usually pack up and save up to go home for Tet once every 4-5 years.
This year, I also did not intend to return home for Tet, because the travel expenses for the whole family were quite high, but fortunately, the union later gave us train tickets. We are very happy,” Ms. Suong expressed.
Holding her niece in her arms, Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy shared: "When I heard that her family was coming back, I kept an eye on my watch all afternoon, waiting until 5 o'clock to go straight to the train station to wait for them.
On Tet holiday, the family can reunite and gather together, which is an indescribable joy and happiness. This year, our family is very happy because our children and grandchildren are coming home to celebrate Tet together. The whole family is looking forward to this moment,” said Ms. Thuy.
According to the plan, this year, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will organize activities to support means of transport for union members and workers to return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet and return to work on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025. Of which, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will support 400 plane tickets and nearly 2,000 train tickets for workers and their relatives to return to their hometowns.
