Opportunities for "Miss Thắm"
In early August, we had the opportunity to visit the Labor Service Center (DVVL) in Dong Thap to learn about the labor market and human resources in the local area. Passing through each job introduction room, training class for workers, we were particularly impressed with the class of young teacher Trang Thi Hong Thắm (born in 1998, Lai Vung district) because she was also a former student here.
"At 18 years old, due to family difficulties, I put my dream of going to university on hold. During the COVID-19 pandemic abroad, I struggled a lot, but fortunately, the company supported me to work overtime, so I sent money back home every month. After 4 years of working, I sent back over 700 million dong to pay off debts, build a house, and support my child's education" - Miss Thắm shared.
After the pandemic, the delegation of provincial leaders and the Labor Service Center in Dong Thap visited and encouraged workers in the local area to work temporarily in Japan. Although we did not have the opportunity to meet "fellow countrymen," through the spread of the Vietnamese community working in Japan, Miss Thắm felt very warm-hearted. This also became a motivation for her to increase her work efficiency to 3 shifts a day.
Upon returning home, Miss Thắm felt like the main character in the famous music piece "Miss Thắm Returns to the Village." Not only was she welcomed by her family, relatives, and neighbors, but she was also hired by International Human Resources Corporation Hưng Thịnh (based in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) as a Japanese language teacher for trainees, with a salary of over 10 million dong per month.
"From regret, I now feel that I have more opportunities than I thought when I first stepped onto the lecture hall. Currently, I have a N3 certificate and am studying at the National Economics University. In the short term, I am striving to convey knowledge and experience, as well as enthusiasm, to other young people. In the long term, I want to establish a language center to master myself and create opportunities for many others to have stable employment" - Miss Thắm added.
Directly learning Japanese from young teacher Hong Thắm at the Labor Service Center in Dong Thap to prepare for working in Japan, Mr. Nguyen Trong Duy (Tam Nong district) expressed: "The fire of motivation from Miss Thắm has helped me make a firm decision to study and work hard, save money to accumulate capital to return home and establish an automobile repair shop".
Transmitting motivation to the family
We followed Miss Thắm to visit her family's house in Hoa Long Commune (Lai Vung district). Meeting us, Mr. Trang Anh Tuấn - Miss Thắm's father - shared: "Initially, I was sad because I couldn't afford to send my child to school as planned, and she had to put her university dreams on hold to work abroad to support the family. Later, when my child worked in Japan and sent money back home every month, my wife and I vowed to work hard and strive together with our child".
He showed us the house made of concrete with 1 ground floor and 1 upper floor, and a 4-seat car and a truck for service... Mr. Tuấn proudly shared: "Everything is from Thắm's money sent back home during her working period." Before parting ways, Mr. Tuấn revealed his plan to buy another 7-seat car to expand his service.
"The most precious thing here is not the money, but the experience, because after returning from abroad, my daughter became more confident, no longer shy, and freely expresses herself and is confident in front of everyone" - Mr. Tuấn happily said.
Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Ai - Head of Labor Supply Department, Labor Service Center in Dong Thap Province - informed: "Working abroad and returning to work as one's own boss not only means managing a company or a facility, but also implies mastering oneself, one's work, and life... to have a new page in life, to have capital and valuable experience to establish oneself and establish a career".
