The Numbers Speak
With the motto “Working for others to become our own bosses,” over the past 10 years, Dong Thap Province has sent nearly 15,000 laborers going abroad to work with a time limit. Specifically, in 2023, the province had over 2,000 laborers leave the country, exceeding the annual target by more than 500 laborers.
The breakthroughs in Dong Thap's policies not only increased the number of laborers but also motivated them to accumulate more money in their pockets, skills in their hands, and a sense of progress in their minds through work habits and technology abroad to return home and establish themselves. As a result, it has contributed to Dong Thap's position: from a remote area to a destination that many domestic and foreign businesses are seeking high-quality labor.
For example, the case of Mr. Nguyen Chapter Phi (Cao Lanh District) is typical. As soon as he went to Japan to work, he concretized the fire of motivation that the provincial leaders had kindled: "Working for others to become our own bosses." Not only did he work seriously to increase his income and save on expenses to accumulate capital..., but he also actively learned the necessary skills. After nearly 4 years of working in Japan, he returned home and established Quang Vinh Food Company with his family.
"I was concerned about starting a business in my hometown in the context of agricultural products often falling into the trap of being in season and losing value. I decided to engage in dried fruits and vegetables to increase the value of the products. In addition, the facility also created additional job opportunities for laborers in the area," Mr. Phi shared.
Similarly, Mr. Hoang Dinh Hung (Tam Nong District) also opened a facility to raise and produce bird's nest at Tram Chim Commune. "Seeing South Korea develop products from ginseng, I had the idea of developing the bird's nest profession in my hometown to expand our scope. Currently, I own 3 bird's nest houses with a monthly income of 20-30 million dong," Mr. Hung said.
Continuing to explore and expand the market
Mr. Nguyen Phu Hieu, Director of Dong Thap Province's Labor Service Center, said that the center has always pushed for the dissemination of information, counseling, and the supply of laborers going abroad to work with a time limit.
"The center's support will help alleviate difficulties and create a sense of confidence for laborers in the province. With many laborers who were initially struggling, they returned home and succeeded, becoming exemplary models and cooperating with the center to pass on the fire to the next generation" - Mr. Hieu added.
Regarding this issue, it is known that Dong Thap Province has 6 resolutions, mainly special policies of the province. Notably, support without repayment will include foreign language learning costs, orientation education, health examination costs, and depending on the time, it will range from 5-7.5 million dong per laborer.
For families with difficult circumstances, the province has implemented a policy of lending credit without collateral for laborers going abroad to work with a contract, with approximately 100 million dong, creating conditions for laborers to escape poverty and rise to establish themselves.
"To perform our duties and tasks better in the coming time, in addition to the efforts of the unit, we have and are continuing to propose and advise the provincial leaders to continue supporting the exploration and expansion of markets in European countries, Australia... and continue to create conditions for laborers to have knowledge and experience to return home and establish themselves, contributing to the development of the province's economy and society" - Mr. Pham Viet Cong, Director of Dong Thap Province's Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Department emphasized.
