The mainstay of freelance workers
According to statistics from the Gia Lai Provincial Federation of Labor, as of April 19, 2025, the whole province has established 18 grassroots unions. In 2024 alone, 16 new unions were formed.
In particular, in the first quarter of 2025, Gia Lai established another grassroots union for independent Preschool groups in Thang Loi ward, Pleiku city.
These grassroots unions attract the participation of a large number of freelance workers - those who do not have labor contracts and work in many different occupations such as: Technology drivers, motorbike taxi drivers, craftsmen, construction workers, seasonal workers...
Some Trade Unions that operate effectively and have a large number of members include: SPX Pleiku Technology Vehicle Trade Union, Phu Thien Shipper Trade Union, Ayun Pa Clean House Service Trade Union and Ayun Pa Loading and Self-management Trade Union.
Currently, the majority of workers in the informal sector have not participated in social insurance, do not have labor contracts and are not under the management of any enterprise or organization.
This makes it difficult for them to access benefits related to health care, labor safety as well as other welfare regimes.

Accompanying workers
Faced with the reality that the majority of workers in the informal sector have not fully accessed benefits of insurance, law and social benefits, the Gia Lai Provincial Trade Union at all levels has actively implemented many propaganda and mobilization activities directly at the workplace and living of workers.
Union officials proactively share information about their rights when participating in the Union organization, insurance policies as well as labor laws.
The union maintains the organization of regular group meetings, creating conditions for exchange and supporting each other in work and daily life.
In Duc Co district, 40 freelance workers working in the taxi sector have volunteered to join the Family taxi Union. The Union Executive Committee has developed a practical activity program to connect members, share difficulties together, promote economic development and gradually escape poverty.
Meanwhile, in Pleiku city, the Trade Union organization recently organized the "Union Meal" program with the participation of 44 union members of the SPX Pleiku Technology Vehicle Union.
In a warm and friendly atmosphere, the union members reviewed the glorious tradition of the Vietnam Trade Union, and shared their thoughts, aspirations as well as advantages and disadvantages in daily work.
The development of grassroots unions in Gia Lai province not only contributes to building an increasingly strong union organization, but also brings spiritual support and practical benefits to freelance workers.
Thereby, gradually improving working conditions, improving welfare, protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of disadvantaged groups of workers.
Recognizing these efforts, the Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor recently awarded a Certificate of Merit to the Gia Lai Provincial Federation of Labor for its outstanding achievements in developing union members and establishing grassroots unions in 2024.
