Currently, the company where she works has 3 meals per meal for workers to choose from. After the meal, the workers also had dessert fruits. Each portion of rice is worth 20,000 VND. Each month, workers have a meal worth 30,000 VND. Along with income and working conditions, ensuring nutritional meals is a factor that helps me stay with the company for a long time, Ms. Phuong shared.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Cham - a worker at Ha Bac Garment Export Company (Viet Yen town, Bac Giang province) also expressed her satisfaction with the meals at the company. She said that each shift meal for workers usually has 3 dishes, ensuring nutrition.
The input food is strictly controlled by the grassroots union, so she is very assured and does not worry about the risk of food poisoning. Every Thursday, workers have more dessert. A full shift meal is one of the reasons why I have been with the company for the past 10 years - Ms. Cham shared.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - Chairman of the Trade Union of Ha Bac Garment Export Company - said that at the unit, the grassroots trade union is assigned to control the quality of food input to prepare meals for workers. Accordingly, the union executive committee inspected and evaluated the capacity of a number of food suppliers to select contractors with the meeting party, ensuring the requirements.
When the food is delivered, there will be people in charge of checking the input food to see if there are any pesticide residues, welding the... or not. These food samples will be stored daily. This process contributes to ensuring food hygiene and safety, ensuring the health of workers.
Currently, Ha Bac Garment Export Company has 2,300 workers working overtime, the value of the shift meal is 21,000 VND/meal. This value is equivalent to 25,000 - 27,000 VND/tael at another unit, because it does not include labor costs. The cooking process at the company is handled by the cooking department at the company, paid by the company said Mr. Hung.
Preventing food poisoning
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Ha Minh Vi - Permanent Vice Chairman of the Trade Union of Industrial Parks in Bac Giang province - said that ensuring food safety during shift meals is an issue of particular concern to both the Trade Union organization, workers and employers.
In enterprises in industrial parks of the province, employers are increasingly interested in and improving the quality of shift meals for employees. However, some businesses have not implemented the steps of selecting food and processing raw materials well, so there is still a potential risk of food poisoning.
The Standing Vice Chairman of the Trade Union of Industrial Parks in Bac Giang province proposed to strengthen propaganda and food safety inspection in the collective kitchen, and at the same time invite trade union representatives to participate in the supervision. Based on the inspection results, the trade union will recommend that enterprises comply with legal regulations, coordinate with grassroots trade unions to ensure safe shift meals for workers.
According to the Trade Union of Industrial Parks of Bac Giang province, in 2024, 23 grassroots trade unions proposed and negotiated with employers to adjust the value of shift meals for employees; 195 units organized union meals, 6 units organized the Trade Union Meal program at enterprises.
