Nghe An Trade Union shares, encourages, and supports union members affected by natural disasters

QUANG ĐẠI |

After the storms and floods, Trade Unions at all levels in Nghe An province have promptly taken action, directly visited, shared and promptly supported hundreds of union members and workers who suffered losses, helping them soon stabilize their lives and return to work.

Visit on-site, provide timely support after storm No. 3

Immediately after the circulation of storm No. 3 (Wipha) caused heavy rain, flash floods and landslides in many mountainous localities of Nghe An, the Nghe An Provincial Federation of Labor directed trade unions at all levels to quickly review the damage. On August 2, 2025, a working delegation of the Provincial Federation of Labor led by Chairman Kha Van Tam directly visited Tuong Duong and Con Cuong to visit, encourage and provide support funds to union members at severely affected enterprises.

The delegation went to Tuong Duong Agricultural Materials Joint Stock Company, Nam Can 2 Hydropower Joint Stock Company, Tuong Duong Protective Forest Management Board, Khe Bo Coal Joint Stock Company and Minh Anh - Con Cuong Garment Joint Stock Company, where many union members suffered heavy damage to their houses. Here, the Provincial Federation of Labor presented a total of 80 million VND to support 20 union members whose houses collapsed, had their assets washed away or were seriously damaged.

Among the most serious cases was Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hoa, a union member of Tuong Duong Agricultural Materials Joint Stock Company. At the support ceremony, the Provincial Federation of Labor presented him with a house at the Trade Union Shelter, helping his family have a support to rebuild their lives.

Sharing about the time of receiving support, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hoa emotionally said: "The house was broken, my husband and I were almost left empty-handed, not knowing where to start. When the Provincial Trade Union visited and presented the Trade Union Shelter, I really felt relieved. For us at that time, it was not only a new house but also a belief to stand up after the storm and flood. Without the support of the Union, my family might have taken a few years to stabilize.

Accompanying workers after storm No. 10

At the end of September, storm No. 10 continued to cause great damage in Nghe An. Prolonged heavy rain damaged houses and property and seriously affected the lives of thousands of workers and laborers. Nghe An Provincial Federation of Labor continues to deploy emergency support.

At Luxshare ICT Nghe An Company Limited, the Provincial Federation of Labor presented 50 million VND from the Trade Union Shelter Fund to Ms. Ngan Thi Luong, a poor household whose house was severely damaged after the storm. In addition, 12 other workers of the damaged company were supported with 2 million VND/person to repair their houses and overcome the damage.

At Nakano Garment Company Limited, the grassroots union mobilized union members and coordinated with businesses to support Ms. Dang Thi Quyen - a single mother raising two young children - with more than 9 million VND after her house's roof was completely blown off. Timely support helps her have the conditions to re-roof the corrugated iron roof and return to work soon.

In parallel with individual support, the Provincial Federation of Labor has implemented the program "Union Meal - Warming the Heart After storms and floods", serving hundreds of free meals to workers of Nghe An Urban Environment and Construction Joint Stock Company. This is the core force participating in collecting waste, dredging mud, clearing sewers and ensuring environmental sanitation immediately after the storm.

Not only providing material relief, many grassroots trade unions also coordinated with businesses and union members to organize environmental sanitation in residential areas, repair collapsed houses, and replace damaged essential items. The spirit of mutual love spreads strongly, becoming a great spiritual motivation for workers. According to statistics, up to now, trade unions at all levels in the province have organized many working groups directly to the grassroots, giving hundreds of support gifts. The activities took place quickly, promptly and to the right subjects.

Chairman of Nghe An Provincial Federation of Labor Kha Van Tam affirmed that the support programs clearly demonstrate the role of the Trade Union in caring for union members, especially in the most difficult times. According to him, each support - whether it is free meals, small gifts or a Trade Union Shelter - contains the responsibility, affection and companionship of the Trade Union organization with the workers.
