I just hope to have a stable place to live so that my children can study with peace of mind
Sharing with reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper on the occasion of the beginning of spring, the new year - February 22nd (January 6th of the Binh Ngo year 2026), Ms. Le Thu Hien said that she has been attached to the Electricity industry for 30 years. Her life quietly passed like many other workers. However, behind the calm appearance of the woman is a long story about willpower, sacrifice and a very simple aspiration: To have a home so that mother and children can live peacefully and reunited.
Officially working in the industry from May 1, 1996, she always completed her assigned tasks well, attached to the job with responsibility and love for the profession. But her private life was not smooth. The broken marriage made her the only pillar of the family. The upheaval did not stop when she had surgery and treatment for uterine cancer. After months of fighting illness, she returned to work, continuing the cycle of making a living while her two children successively entered university.
All living and study expenses of her children depend on the unsold worker's salary. The dream of a house is therefore fading away. For many years, the three mothers and children have lived in a cramped house, hot in summer, humid in the rainy season. Every time the weather changes, her health is affected, but the bigger worry is still the future of her children.
I just hope to have a stable place to live so that my children can study with peace of mind," she once confided to grassroots trade union officials like that. That wish seemed distant until she was considered by the Vietnam Electricity Trade Union at all levels to support building a Trade Union Shelter with the amount of 100 million VND. It was not only material support, but also timely sharing, touching the deepest thing in the mother's worry.
On the day of receiving the support decision, Ms. Hien could not hide her emotions. Tears rolled down the face of the woman who was used to hardship. The new house is not big enough, but solid enough to shelter from rain and wind; warm enough for every evening, Ms. Hien and her children to gather around a small tray of rice.
For her two children who are studying at university, the Trade Union Shelter is a spiritual support for them to feel secure in studying and nurturing dreams of a better future. As for Ms. Hien, it is a worthy reward for years of persistent labor, not giving up to fate.
Binh Ngo Tet 2026, in the new house still smelling of plaster - many items are not yet completed - Ms. Hien's family welcomed spring with complete joy. Her story is not only the story of a union member being supported, but also a vivid proof of the role of the Trade Union organization - where workers find companionship, sharing and faith.
More than 6.712 billion VND to care for Tet for union members and workers
Ms. Le Thu Hien - is one of more than 12 million turns of union members and workers (ĐV, NLĐ) being cared for and supported by trade union levels during the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026.
On February 22, Mr. Phan Van Anh - Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour - said that Tet Nguyen Dan Binh Ngo 2026 care activities are organized at three levels of trade unions, in accordance with the actual structure and conditions. The activities are mainly concentrated at the grassroots level, deploying a smooth and harmonious combination of traditional and modern methods, especially the application of information technology and digital transformation in organizing care activities.
The activities of organizing visits, giving gifts, and Tet greetings to union members and workers, serving the leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly, Vietnam Fatherland Front, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, ministries, central and local branches, visiting and giving Tet gifts to union members and workers continue to be organized meaningfully, methodically and highly appreciated. The program "Tet Sum vay - Spring of Gratitude to the Party" is mainly organized at the grassroots level with a joyful and excited atmosphere, celebrating the success of the 14th National Party Congress.
The program "Trade Union Tet Market - Spring 2026" in direct and online forms continues to be maintained and expanded, with great effectiveness and strong spread. "Trade Union Flight", "Trade Union Train", "Trade Union Bus" continue to be special highlights of Binh Ngo Tet 2026, being elevated in terms of both humanity, scale and service quality.
The "Trade Union New Year's Eve Meal" is widely and warmly deployed, quality, and is an activity connecting union members, workers, trade unions and employers.
The subjects of care are focused on union members and workers in particularly difficult circumstances, who have had labor accidents, suffered from occupational diseases, serious illnesses, reduced working hours, lost jobs, owed salaries and bonuses; union members and workers belonging to policy families, ethnic minorities, who have not had the conditions to return to their hometowns for Tet for many years; union members and workers staying at units and businesses to work, produce, and do business during Tet; trade union officials and union members moving far due to the arrangement of the organizational structure of the political system at all levels" - Mr. Phan Van Anh said.
According to incomplete reports from Provincial and City Labor Confederations, central industry trade unions, economic group trade unions and corporations directly under the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (as of February 15, 2026), during the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026, there were over 12 million turns of union members, workers and their relatives benefiting from care activities of the Trade Union organization with a total budget of over 6.712 billion VND.
