Attending and directing the Congress were Ms. Thai Thu Xuong - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL); Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan - Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Council; nearly 300 outstanding delegates representing more than 116,000 union members attended.
Speaking at the opening of the Congress, Chairman of the An Giang Provincial Federation of Labor Do Tran Thinh said: The Congress demonstrates the determination of all cadres, union members, and workers in the whole province, striving to build An Giang into a strongly developed province, in the direction of industrialization and modernization. During the days of the Congress, more than 116,000 union members and employees are looking forward to the Congress, expressing their full confidence and waiting for the Congress's wise decisions.
The theme of the Congress is: Focus on representing and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and workers; pioneering, innovating, building a strong Trade Union, building a modern and strong working class, entering a new era with the nation; motto "Solidarity - Democracy - Discipline - Innovation - Development".
Speaking at the Congress, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Thai Thu Xuong said: The 1st An Giang Provincial Trade Union Congress took place in the context of merging the Trade Union organizations of the two provinces of An Giang and Kien Giang into the new An Giang province. In the 2023-2025 period, the socio-economic situation of the two provinces will develop stably, creating many opportunities and advantages; but there are also intertwined difficulties and challenges, affecting the lives and jobs of workers and trade union activities.
The Standing Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor also emphasized and suggested a number of additional issues for the Congress to discuss and decide.
First, focus on performing well the role of representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and employees, especially in the following areas: wages, social insurance, working hours and environment; occupational safety and hygiene, health care for union members and employees, especially female workers. Develop a variety of activities to care for the interests of union members in a practical and effective manner.
Second, continue to strongly innovate the content and methods of propaganda and mobilization in a proactive, timely and effective manner; through digitalization, connection and use of communication documents on cyberspace, digital platforms according to the principles of "fastness", " squarness" "deepness" and "clearness" so that employees can easily access and understand correctly, thereby improving the effectiveness of education and persuasion in propaganda about trade union organization and activities.
Third, organize patriotic emulation movements among union members and workers well with appropriate content and methods for each type of facility, profession, and target, especially the emulation movements "good workers, creative workers", "green, clean, beautiful, ensuring occupational safety and hygiene", "good at public work, good at housework".
Fourth, continue to innovate the content and methods of operation of the Trade Union according to the new organizational model, especially the model of the commune and ward trade unions; focus resources and solutions, promote innovation, digital transformation, build digital trade unions and digital union members.
Focus on seriously and effectively implementing "3 approaches": close to employees, close to the grassroots, near digital space; "3 musts": must listen, must dialogue, must be exemplary, must take responsibility, must report results; "3 no's": un formal, not avoidable, not pushing, not doing wrong functions.
"Immediately after the Congress, I request the Executive Committee of the new An Giang Provincial Trade Union to urgently develop an Action Program to implement the Resolution with specific tasks and solutions; prioritize resources to implement breakthroughs. At the same time, direct and guide affiliated trade unions at all levels to concretize them into work programs suitable for each locality and facility. Develop and promulgate operating regulations, strictly implement the principles of democratic centralism, solidarity and unity under the comprehensive leadership of the Party Committee", Ms. Thai Thu Xuong emphasized.
