7 days with more than 25,000 workers stopping work
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tuan - Head of the Policy and Law Department of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor - said that in recent days, union officials at all levels, especially the Provincial Federation of Labor, have made efforts to work to protect the legitimate rights of workers and maintain production activities at enterprises at risk of stopping strikes.
According to the latest report, from March 1, 2025 to March 7, 2025, there were 10 companies in the province with 25,010 workers on hold. In addition, 2 companies with 14,558 workers showed signs of quitting work, but thanks to the timely intervention of trade unions at all levels and local authorities, this situation was prevented.
Companies with workers who have stopped working include:
In Tho Xuan district, there are Rollsport Shoes Company Limited, Tho Xuan district branch: 2,670 workers; Zheng Ta Company Limited: 516 workers; Adian Company Limited, Tho Xuan district branch: 3,824 workers; Comporysion Company Limited: 685 workers.
In Trieu Son district, Ivory Co., Ltd.: 850 workers; Sun Jade Co., Ltd.: 2,200 workers (the strike delay has been stopped).
In Cam Thuy district, there is PMT Shoes Co., Ltd. (4,400 workers); Ngoc Lac district: VGCL (2,746 workers); Yen Dinh district: Long Thanh Thien Ha Shoes Co., Ltd. (2,406 workers); Vinh Loc district: Hiep Thang Shoes Co., Ltd. (700 workers).
In Ha Trung district, there is Venus Shoes Co., Ltd. (more than 12,358 workers) (the Strike has been stopped); Nhu Thanh district: Akalia Vietnam Shoes Co., Ltd. (7,203 workers).
The main reason for the collective work stoppage at the above companies comes from the workers' request to increase wages to the regional minimum wage...
Trust in the trade union organization
Since January 2025, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor has proactively directed grassroots unions and trade unions at the grassroots level to monitor the situation and found that workers have proposed to increase their salaries according to regulations.
Immediately afterwards, the Provincial Federation of Labor had working sessions with enterprises, proposing that enterprises resolve workers' petitions.
In particular, Hoa Loi Group was proposed by the union to increase salaries at a working conference with the leaders of Hoa Loi Group at Sun Jade - Le Mon Shoes Company Limited (January 2025); Meeting with FDI enterprises at the Provincial Federation of Labor (February 2025).
However, the leaders of this group only received opinions without taking any action to resolve them. When Rollsport Shoes Company Limited, Tho Xuan district branch of this group, stopped working, the chain effect spread to other companies in the group and even enterprises not under Hoa Loi.
As soon as the work stoppage occurred, trade unions at all levels and local authorities coordinated to grasp the aspirations of workers, and at the same time directly discussed with business leaders. After the dialogue, most companies have come up with reasonable solutions, helping workers quickly return to work and restore production.
As of the morning of March 7, there is only one company that has not yet resolved the issue, the working group of the Provincial Federation of Labor is continuing to work with this enterprise to ensure the rights of workers and stabilize production.
The Provincial Federation of Labor has also proposed to the Provincial People's Committee and employers appropriate policies to protect workers' rights, especially in foreign-invested enterprises (FDI), while avoiding recurring collective work stoppages in the future.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tuan - Head of the Legal Policy Department of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor - said that all of the above collective work stoppages are only stable when the trade union organization is involved. During the working process, both owners and workers believe that the trade union is a bridge to ensure the harmony of legitimate rights and interests of both sides.
