Overcoming hardship with workers
Ms. Ho Thi Thanh Tuyen (born in 1968, residing in Gia Lai), an employee of Binh Dinh Hospital Joint Stock Company, shared: "After 1 night of a fierce storm, the roof was blown off, the front porch collapsed, many items were severely damaged. The dilapidated house has now deteriorated, and the whole family has to live temporarily. With the support of the Union, my family is very grateful. The gifts and words of encouragement at this time are truly warm, helping to share some of the difficulties".
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy - Permanent Vice President of the Gia Lai Provincial Federation of Labor - said: "Immediately after the storm, the Provincial Federation of Labor coordinated with localities to review and count union members and workers whose houses collapsed, had their roofs blown off, or were damaged to propose the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to support funding to help them rebuild their lives".
Ms. Thuy informed that in the immediate future, the Provincial Trade Union has visited and provided initial support to cases of severe damage, and at the same time mobilized workers and enterprises to rebuild factories and restore production. "Not only workers, but also businesses suffered great damage, factories were damaged, and operations were stagnant" - Ms. Thuy said.
According to statistics, storm No. 13 strongly affected Gia Lai province on the night of November 6, damaging about 400 houses of union members and workers, including 4 collapsed houses, 75 completely blown-off houses, 253 partially blown-off houses and 43 cases of flooding and property damage.
Immediately after the storm, leaders of the Gia Lai Provincial Federation of Labor directly visited and presented support to union members and workers who suffered heavy losses, each case with 2 million VND.
According to the plan, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will support 500 million VND to help union members and workers in Gia Lai soon stabilize their lives after the storm.
Warming gestures in the midst of hardship
In Da Nang, the historic flood at the end of October caused heavy damage to many localities, more than 10,000 union members and workers were affected, most of their assets could not be restored. The City Labor Federation has spent more than 18 billion VND in emergency support, helping them overcome difficulties and soon stabilize their lives.
In addition, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor also supported 1 billion VND for Da Nang workers. Many businesses, despite suffering losses, still share with their workers.
In Dien Ban town (Quang Nam), a series of businesses have implemented practical support policies. Daikyo Ohta Clothing Company supported each worker with 2 million VND and paid the full salary for 6 days off due to floods. Phong Son MTV Company supported 500,000 VND/person. In particular, Quang Nam Regional General Hospital supported the highest level of 5 million VND/person, along with 4 million VND for the combat force during the rainy and flood days.
A bright spot is Sedo Vinako Company Limited in Dong Yen Industrial Cluster. Despite severe flooding and damage to goods and equipment, the company still supported each worker with 3 million VND, with a total cost of more than 15 billion VND. These support parts are not only material but also a strong source of spiritual encouragement, demonstrating the companionship of businesses with workers.
Support from the Trade Union's financial resources
In October-November 2025, many provinces and cities were consecutively affected by major storms, directly affecting the lives and jobs of tens of thousands of people. Promoting the spirit of "mutual love, the healthy leaves cover the torn leaves", the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has launched a fundraising campaign to support people in disaster areas across the country.
Immediately after the launching ceremony, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor collected 372.6 million VND, and decided to allocate 5 billion VND from the union's financial resources to support union members and workers to overcome the consequences of storms and floods in 2025.
Working delegations of the Standing Committee of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor directly visited and presented gifts to affected workers in Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Thanh Hoa, Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai... Many grassroots trade union organizations have also proactively implemented large-scale support activities.
In Can Tho, the City Labor Federation organized the "Love trip" program, transporting 20 tons of necessities to support union members in Thai Nguyen province. The Vietnam Education Trade Union supports departments and educational institutions to overcome the damage caused by storms No. 10 and 11, with a total cost of more than 1.6 billion VND.
Ms. Ho Thi Kim Ngan - Deputy Head of the Labor Relations Department of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor - said: "The total budget for visiting and giving gifts to union members and workers affected by storms and floods from contributions and union finances is more than 10 billion VND".
Where there are workers, there are trade unions
On November 10, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in coordination with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City organized a program to provide support to union members and workers affected by storms and floods.
Here, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang, member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, presented 1 billion VND to support workers in Hue City. The President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor expressed his deep sympathy for the losses that the people and union members and workers have to bear, and affirmed: "The Trade Union will continue to accompany the locality in the work of restoring production and caring for the lives of union members and workers after natural disasters".
The working group led by Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang also visited Victortex Hue Company to present 60 gifts directly to workers severely affected.
Other working groups led by Vice Presidents of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Ngo Duy Hieu, Nguyen Xuan Hung, and Phan Van Anh also visited Da Nang, Quang Tri, and Lam Dong to visit and present gifts to union members who suffered losses (each province received 500 million VND).
At the destinations, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor directs localities to carefully review, provide appropriate and timely support, and "not leave any union members behind".
In particular, trade unions at all levels are preparing a program to care for the Lunar New Year 2026, prioritizing support for union members in especially difficult circumstances, those who have had work accidents, occupational diseases, and those who have suffered losses due to storms; at the same time, paying attention to union members staying to work during Tet, ensuring that all workers have a warm and affectionate Tet.
Although the storm and flood have passed, the warm image of the Trade Union organization - a place that promptly shares, supports and assists workers in the Central region still remains in the minds of workers. Caring hands and meaningful gifts not only help them overcome immediate difficulties, but also arouse trust, to rebuild their lives together after natural disasters...
