According to the Project of Vinh Long Provincial Labor Federation, the establishment of commune and ward trade unions is an urgent requirement in the context of arranging and streamlining the organizational structure of trade unions according to the new model. After the merger, the Provincial Labor Federation directly manages 670 grassroots trade unions with more than 164,000 union members, widely distributed throughout 124 communes and wards.
This reality poses many difficulties in directing, connecting information and promptly solving problems arising at the grassroots level. Therefore, the formation of commune and ward-level trade unions is expected to become a direct focal point, enhancing the effectiveness of trade union activities in the area.
According to the Project, the whole province has 13 communes and wards that meet the conditions to establish trade unions, with 321 grassroots trade unions and more than 118,000 union members. These units basically meet the criteria of 1,500 union members and have at least 10 or more grassroots trade unions.
Up to now, 3 commune and ward trade unions have been established, including Nguyet Hoa Ward Trade Union, Tra Vinh Ward Trade Union and Ba Tri Commune Trade Union. These are units that have initially implemented the new model, contributing to improving the effectiveness of caring for and protecting the rights of union members and workers.
Mr. Nguyen Phuc Linh - Member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Provincial Party Committee Member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial Labor Federation - said that the establishment of commune and ward trade unions aims to concretize the policy of streamlining the apparatus, while strengthening the representative role and protecting the legitimate rights of workers.
According to Mr. Linh, this model will help closely connect provincial-level trade unions with grassroots levels, promptly grasp the thoughts and aspirations of union members and workers. "Commune and ward trade unions will directly participate in resolving labor disputes, organizing movements and taking care of the lives of workers more effectively," Mr. Linh added.
In the coming time, Vinh Long Provincial Labor Federation will continue to review and mobilize localities that meet the conditions to establish commune and ward trade unions, gradually complete the organization and improve the quality of trade union activities throughout the province.
