On August 4th, the Trade Union of the Economic and Industrial Zone of Thua Thien Hue province, in collaboration with Vocational School No. 10, organized the “Skilled Tailor” competition.
Participating in the competition were 10 teams with 40 contestants who are workers from grassroots trade unions at manufacturing and business enterprises in the garment sector. In the competition, the teams went through 2 sections: machinist and tailor.
In the machinist section, each team consisted of one contestant, who had 30 minutes to complete both theoretical and practical parts. The technical requirements for the practical part included recalibrating the machine at several pre-misaligned positions, including adjusting the needle cam range, the feed dog, the needle bar, and the bobbin case.
In the tailor section, each team of 3 had 120 minutes to complete 5 sets of products, including chef hats and aprons.
The technical requirements for the contest products included single-needle machine stitches with 6 stitches per centimeter, straight and even seams without skipped stitches, loose threads, neat seam edges, even pleats, no misalignment, and correct specifications.
According to Ms. Le Thi Thu Nam - Chairwoman of the Trade Union of the Economic and Industrial Zone of the province, the competition aimed to encourage and motivate trade union members and workers to actively work, improve their skills, and adopt new working styles to become skilled workers; create an environment for workers in enterprises to interact and exchange experiences, contributing to enhancing creativity among workers. At the same time, it aimed to commend and honor skilled workers, further promoting the movement of “Skilled Labor - Creative Labor” among union members and workers.
