Workers promote sustainable green development

NGUYỄN HÀ |

Environmental protection is the foundation for sustainable development, in which workers play a key role, becoming an important force promoting clean production and green transformation.

Workers play an important role in the environmental field.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Dinh Tho - Director of the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) - affirmed that workers play a very important role in the environmental field. According to Mr. Tho, the nature of emissions and environmental pollution comes from the process of industrialization, modernization and urbanization. Workers are the main force in the process of transition from agriculture to industry and services. The role of workers in protecting the environment, responding to climate change and combating biodiversity loss has been affirmed.

“Here, workers play a role in two ways. Firstly, they participate in the production of goods and services and in this process we will carry out the energy transition, the transition to green technology, cleaner technology and workers contribute to this process. Secondly, workers benefit and they have the right to work in a clean environment. Therefore, the formation of ecological industrial parks, green industrial parks, green factories creates opportunities for workers to work in better environmental conditions” - Director of the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Natural Resources and Environment emphasized.

The annual forum achieved many important results.

The forum "Workers for the Environment" was conceived in 2019 and has achieved many positive results, contributing to strengthening the role of workers in enterprises in monitoring compliance with environmental protection laws, promoting sustainable production and consumption, and implementing the National Strategy on Green Growth...

Good environmental protection helps businesses improve their competitiveness, penetrate international markets and ensure sustainable development. Promoting the role of businesses and workers in environmental protection is the key solution to address current environmental pressures.

In 2024, the Forum will continue to be held with the desire to propose specific solutions to promote workers' and laborers' activities to protect the environment, further enhance the role of workers in business and production activities of enterprises associated with environmental protection, promote the active participation of grassroots unions in activities to monitor the protection of natural resources and the environment of enterprises nationwide. At the same time, the program honors initiatives and ideas of workers in environmental protection.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Dinh Tho, organizing the forum is extremely important for raising awareness, training, educating and guiding workers to understand their role in the green transition, circular transition, to transition to a low-carbon economy. At the same time, it also guides workers to understand their rights.

“Therefore, I think that the Labor Forum for the Environment of Lao Dong Newspaper will be extremely important to reach a large number of workers and guide them on how they can actively participate and at the same time protect their rights in the process of green transformation, digital transformation and circular transformation,” said Mr. Tho.

The 2024 Workers' Forum for the Environment will be held at 2:00 p.m. on December 12, 2024 at the Vietnam - Soviet Union Friendship Cultural Palace (Hanoi), with the participation of guests from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; Representatives of Trade Union organizations of enterprises; Press agencies... The program will be reported live on laodong.vn.
