Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, a worker at Viet Thang Company (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), shared that recently, the prices of many consumer and household items have increased compared to before.
Ms. Hang said that the price of rice has increased by 2,000 VND/kg; pork has increased by about 30,000 - 50,000 VND/kg, depending on the type. For example, pork belly increased from 120,000 VND/kg to about 150,000 VND - 160,000 VND/kg; pork ribs also increased by 10,000 VND - 20,000 VND/kg to about 180,000 VND - 190,000 VND/kg; cooking oil also increased by 2,000 VND/ped. The price of vegetables and fruits also increased slightly.
According to Ms. Hang, many workers today, even working overtime, only earn about 9 - 10 million VND/month, so they face many difficulties in life. Many people have to send their children back to their hometowns for grandparents to take care of, parents cannot be close to their children.
Some young workers tend to get married late or do not want to get married, partly due to concerns that their salary is not enough to raise their children properly. Many workers after many years of working with a company in Ho Chi Minh City now tend to return to their hometown to work because the high cost of living in Ho Chi Minh City makes their lives more difficult.
Ms. Tran Thi Hong Van - Chairwoman of the Trade Union of Nissei Electric Vietnam Company - said that while the income of the majority of workers does not meet the spending needs of themselves and their families, most workers have to save and save to ensure their lives.
There are many workers who have to borrow to pay for emergency needs. Therefore, Ms. Van suggested that the State should soon increase the regional minimum wage according to the proposed level of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, which is to increase it by 320,000 - 450,000 VND/month as soon as possible.
Mr. Quach Man Nghia - Chairman of the Trade Union of Always Vietnam Company - also said that the State should prioritize increasing the regional minimum wage according to option 1 proposed by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
The 9.2% increase will be in line with the expectations of all workers, contributing to helping workers to compensate for the increasing cost of living, especially in large cities like Ho Chi Minh City and improve the lives of workers, said Mr. Nghia.
