Quang Ngai currently has over 55,000 workers working in industrial parks and enterprises in the province.
According to statistics, the whole province still has dozens of enterprises that are late in paying social insurance for a long time, with a total amount of more than 280 billion VND, causing difficulties in the process of resolving the regimes for sickness, maternity, and retirement for employees.
Notable is the situation of unpaid wages and late payment of social insurance at Licogi Quang Ngai Joint Stock Company (Hai Ba Trung Street, Quang Ngai City - under Licogi Corporation). Over the past 6 years, workers and authorities have taken drastic actions to demand legitimate rights. However, up to now, this unit has still ignored legal regulations, only paid wages in a way to deal with and did not ensure social insurance for employees, and at the same time cited the difficulties in the production and business situation.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Cao Tinh (in The Long village, Tinh Phong commune, Son Tinh district) said: "I have been working at the Phong Nien Brick Factory workshop, under Licogi Company since 1994. In October 2020, the company unilaterally terminated the contract, causing me to be unemployed and have to go home to sell noodles to help my wife make a living. Currently, the company still owes me severance pay and unemployment insurance, totaling more than 80 million VND. Every Tet holiday, or when workers collect debts, the company only pays each worker about 1 million VND".
According to Mr. Tinh, the business activities of this company are quite effective at present, but for some reason, over the past 6 years, they have not paid wages and have been late in paying social insurance for dozens of workers. Workers have repeatedly gone to the company to collect debts and send petitions to many authorities, but the situation is still like "water for the potato leaves".
According to Quang Ngai Social Insurance, many businesses in the area are late in paying social insurance. The reason is due to the general difficult situation of the economy, greatly affecting employment and income of enterprises and workers. At the same time, this also affects the collection and increases the amount of late payment.
Meanwhile, the handling of late social insurance payments for businesses with difficulty collecting ( breakdown, dissolution, absconding owners, etc.) has not yet had specific regulations or instructions from the law.
Mr. Tran Dai Thang - Vice Chairman of the Quang Ngai Provincial Federation of Labor - informed that in order to enhance policy communication and direct dialogue with workers, Quang Ngai Provincial Social Insurance and the Provincial Federation of Labor have just organized a conference to promote and dialogue at Techlink Pets Company Limited. More than 200 union members, workers and employers have been disseminated information about their rights and responsibilities related to the Law on Social Insurance, the Law on Health Insurance and the Law on Trade Unions.
Through dialogues and propaganda sessions, workers can clearly understand their rights, especially in the current context when the situation of social insurance arrears in some enterprises is still directly affecting their rights.
We identify protecting the legitimate and legal rights of workers as a key task. The Provincial Federation of Labor will continue to coordinate with the Provincial Social Insurance and relevant agencies to strengthen inspection and handling of social insurance arrears and support workers to grasp the policy" - Mr. Thang added.
