Gia Lai - The Secretary of Ayun Pa Ward affirmed that he will require agencies and units to strictly manage public assets, especially urban trees.

On July 1, Mr. Tran Quoc Khanh - Secretary of Ayun Pa Ward, Gia Lai Province - said that he had received an official dispatch from the Ministry of Finance requesting clarification of the responsibilities of organizations and individuals related to the tree cutting down in the premises of the People's Committee of Cheo Reo Ward (old).

As Lao Dong Newspaper has reported, during the time of merging and rearranging commune-level administrative units, the People's Committee of Cheo Reo Ward (old Ayun Pa Town) arbitrarily cut down many large cajuput trees in the headquarters premises.

The amount of money from selling the trees was 8 million VND. The discovery has caused public outrage and outrage among local people.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the Law on Management and Use of Public Assets 2017 (amended and supplemented in 2024) stipulates: public assets at agencies, organizations, and units including offices, public works, public housing, and other assets attached to land at headquarters.

Along with land use rights, machinery, equipment, intellectual property rights, application software, databases and other assets according to regulations.

The Ministry of Finance requested the People's Committee of Gia Lai province to direct competent authorities to inspect and clarify the management, use and handling of public assets at the People's Committee of Cheo Reo ward (old).

According to Mr. Tran Quoc Khanh - Secretary of Ayun Pa Ward - from the Ministry of Finance's official dispatch, local authorities determined that trees in the premises are public property of the State. Therefore, through inspection, the leaders of Cheo Reo Ward People's Committee arbitrarily cutting down trees is a violation, not properly implementing the process and procedures for selling, liquidating and auctioning public assets of the State.

Ayun Pa Ward will send an official dispatch to agencies and units requesting to thoroughly protect the urban green tree system. If you want to cut down trees to replace them with other types of trees, you must report to the competent authority for approval and agree with the policy. The amount of money from the sale must be paid into the budget.

Currently, in Ayun Pa, there are still many old urban trees in the headquarters of agencies and units. Therefore, it is very important to protect and raise awareness of people, cadres, civil servants and workers about public assets.

"The sagging of 7 large cajuput trees in Cheo Reo ward was determined to have no signs of personal gain. However, some officials are still negligent and do not fully understand the public assets assigned to them for management. We have requested individuals and groups involved to review the responsibility for violations and at the same time have a way to overcome the consequences, affirmed Ayun Pa Ward Secretary Tran Quoc Khanh.

Ayun Pa ward, Gia Lai province was established on the basis of arranging and merging the administrative boundaries of the wards including: Doan Ket ward, Song Bo, Cheo Reo and Hoa Binh. The Secretary of the old Ayun Pa town, Mr. Tran Quoc Khanh, was assigned and transferred to be the Secretary of the old Ayun Pa ward, the Chairman was Mr. Dang Xuan Toan. Ayun Pa is known as a hot pan area with a harsh, hot climate.
