A steadfast communist soldier, a outdated revolutionary journalist
Comrade Nguyen Duc Canh (1908 - 1932) was born into a poor poor poor poor family with a rich tradition of patriotism and studiousness in Diem Dien village, General Ho Doi, Thuy Anh district, Thai Binh province (now Thai Thuy commune, Hung Yen province). Having been enlightened by the revolution early, sympathizing with the suffering of the workers and realizing the great strength of the working class if it were united, he directly participated, mobilized, and organized the revolutionary struggle movement of the working class.
On July 28, 1929, comrade Nguyen Duc Canh convene a Congress of Workers of the provinces in Bac Ky, meeting at Thuan My dried fruit pharmacy (No. 15, Hang Non Street, Hanoi). The Congress set out new tasks for the workers' movement and established the Bac Ky Red Trade Union, electing an executive committee of 3 comrades. Comrade Nguyen Duc Canh is the provisional association director. The birth of the Red Trade Union is especially meaningful for the Vietnamese workers' movement and trade union activities.
The Congress also decided to publish Lao Dong Newspaper and Cong Hoi Do magazine as the propaganda agency of the Congress. Comrade Nguyen Duc Canh is directly in charge of both newspapers and magazines. In the difficult and deprived situation, having to deal with the lurking of detectives, Lao Dong Newspaper - the mouthpiece of the Red River Trade Union was urgently prepared and promptly released the first issue on August 14, 1929. The newspaper called on workers and laborers of factories, mines, and plantations to participate in organizing the Congress, unite in fighting against the capitalists and imperialists. First page of Lao Dong has an article about the First Congress of the Red River Trade Union with exciting opening lines, clearly showing the image of "Mr. B" - that is, comrade Nguyen Duc Canh chaired the congress.
Comrade Nguyen Duc Canh has many posts in Lao Dong Newspaper to propagate, educate workers, and guide workers to fight according to the Party's guidelines and methods. No. 2 and No. 3 of Lao Dong Newspaper were printed and published in September and October 1929, published a number of articles by leaders of the Communist Republic of Indochina and the Party, by Comrade Nguyen Duc Canh, discussing the guidelines of the movement of socialist movements, the role and historical mission of workers and boatmen in the cause of saving the water. The Lao Dong Newspaper of the Red Bac Trade Union has marked the appearance of many newspapers of the working class and the Trade Union organization in the campaign for government.
In February 1930 , comrade Nguyen Duc Canh attended the Conference to establish the Communist Party of Vietnam and was assigned to hold the following responsibilities: Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee, Secretary of the Bac Ky Party Committee, Member of the Standing Committee of the Trung Ky Party Committee.
In charge of propaganda work at the Standing Committee of the Trung Ky Party Committee, Comrade Nguyen Duc Canh played an important role, together with the Trung Ky Party Committee, in building a system of Party newspapers from the country to the province and the grassroots. In April 1931, he was arrested by the French colonialists in Vinh. Despite being tortured in many ways, the comrade refused to confess. On July 31, 1932, he was executed by the French colonialists in the Hai Phong crop.

75 years after comrade Nguyen Duc Canh was beaten by the French with comrade Ho Ngoc Lan, in September 2007, the remains of the two comrades were found at the premises of Thong Nhat Shoes Joint Stock Company, An Dong Commune, An Duong District, Hai Phong City (now An Hai Ward, Hai Phong City). In 2008, the Memorial House for leader Nguyen Duc Canh and martyr Ho Ngoc Lan was built right at the place where the remains of the two comrades were found and became a red address for the working class and the Vietnam Trade Union.
In 2018, the memorial house for comrade Nguyen Duc Canh was built on a larger campus of 3 hectares and inaugurated a year later. The project has actively contributed to educating the tradition and revolutionary ideals of the laborers and future generations about the life and heroic sacrifice of comrade Nguyen Duc Canh.
Grateful for the great contributions of leader Nguyen Duc Canh, the first Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper, the generation of cadres and reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, who are constantly striving for the common cause of the country, making the newspaper increasingly developed, worthy of being the mouthpiece of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the voice of Vietnamese workers today.
