Hanoi has flooded areas that have not yet receded, workers cannot go to work

By the afternoon of August 27, many places in Hanoi were still deeply flooded. Many companies have returned to normal work but workers have not been able to come to the factory.

At 6:30 a.m. on August 27, Ms. Bui Thi Loan, a worker at a company in the craft village cluster of Phuong Liet ward (Hanoi) received a text message from the human resources department informing workers to return to work. At the beginning of the alley of the boarding house, Ms. Loan panicked because the water was still about 30cm deep, stretching hundreds of meters. Ms. Loan took a photo of the flooded road and reported to the company about her work stoppage on August 27.

I went to the alley entrance and saw the 7-seat car confidently passing through the deep flooded section, while the low-chassis cars were very dangerous, some vehicles turned around to find another way. The motorbike was driven by a young man and tried to find a way to go, most women riding motorbikes also turned around when encountering deep water, Ms. Loan recounted.

Mr. Phung Viet Do is currently renting a house in Chuong My ward, working as a worker in Yen Nghia Industrial Park (Hanoi). From the night of August 25, after only 5 hours of continuous rain, Mr. Do's rented room was flooded. By the afternoon of August 26, Mr. Do's rented room was flooded with about 15cm of water, all of his belongings had to be put on the tables and beds.

By mid-afternoon of August 27, the water was still seeping in the rented room. Mr. Do took a photo of a flooded rental area to report his resignation on August 27.

"I have been working in Hanoi for 9 years, renting a room in many areas, the first time I have seen a long rain, the flooded water for several days has not receded completely. For the past two days, my friend and I have been renting a room and had to eat rice and dirt, the electricity was out so we hadn't been able to cook anything. If there was electricity, I would have to clean up for a long time before daring to close the bridge to use electricity. Fortunately, we are single and have few belongings; many families in the boarding house have had young children and have been miserable for the past few days because there is no electricity, no food or water, and cannot take the initiative, said Mr. Do.

Mr. Do Van Nghia, who rented a room in residential group No. 5, Ha Dong ward, has not returned to work on August 27. Mr. Nghia said that the place he rented a room was the lowest area in the area, so on the afternoon of August 27, although the water had receded on major roads, he could not ride his motorbike out of the rented room because the surrounding area was flooded.

"I tried roaming around and there were sections where the water was still up to the knees, I was most afraid that riding a motorbike into a potholed pot and rocks would be dangerous. Not to mention, the car will be flooded, the engine will stall, and there will be no means of transportation to work in the following days, so I asked the company to take a day off on August 27," said Mr. Nghia.
