Not showing off, the more than 3-decade journey of the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (Agribank) is an inspiring story, starting from mobile banking trips across mountains to remote villages, there, not only financial services, but also companionship and sharing with the strategic economic space: The three Agricultural - Agricultural, Farmer and Rural Area.
Founded in 1988, from community credit models such as loan groups, mobile banks, to a widespread branch system, Agribank has built a financial ecosystem covering rural areas in Vietnam, with nearly 2,300 branches, transaction offices and more than 64,000 loan groups, accompanying millions of farming households on the development journey.
Currently, Agribank accounts for more than 1/3 of the total outstanding agricultural and rural credit loans nationwide, affirming its pivotal role in developing this essential sector. Behind the numbers is the sense of responsibility, perseverance and dedication of tens of thousands of cadres who are sticking to the area every day, bringing capital to the right place, right time, right need.

Emulation innovation - breakthrough from internal strength
Not only performing the function of a commercial bank, Agribank is also a place where emulation movements spread widely from the grassroots, organized in a practical manner and closely linked to professional tasks.
In the period of 2020 - 2025, the whole system recorded more than 638 excellent labor groups, 18,247 cadres were recognized as grassroots emulation fighters. Hundreds of professional improvement initiatives have been applied, contributing to improving service efficiency and promoting innovation in banking operations.
The spirit of competition exists from the remote transaction office to the central branches, spreading in each specific task - from bringing capital to the disadvantaged area, improving business processes, to applying technology in customer service.
With more than 56% of staff being female, the movement "Good at banking, good at housework" has also become a characteristic in Agribank's corporate culture.
Speaking at the Conference to commend advanced models and commend "Female union members - workers who are good at banking, good at housework" in the period of 2020 - 2025, Permanent Deputy Governor of the State Bank Dao Minh Tu highly appreciated Agribank's persistent contributions. Mr. Dao Minh Tu emphasized: "Advanced models are shining examples in overcoming difficulties and creativity - contributing to building Agribank's reputation and strengthening social trust in the banking industry".
By 2030, the Permanent Deputy Governor suggested that Agribank continue to innovate emulation movements, associated with sustainable development goals, promoting green credit, digital banking, rewarding the right person - the right job, applying technology to emulation - reward, and at the same time building a clean and strong Party organization and mass organization.
Pioneering green development, spreading community responsibility
A highlight in Agribank's development journey is the harmonious combination of business efficiency and social responsibility. In 2024, the bank spent nearly 700 billion VND on social security programs nationwide: Building schools, health stations, gratitude houses, supporting the disadvantaged, overcoming natural disasters and epidemics.
In addition, Agribank is one of the pioneering banks in green credit. The Bank has implemented the Environmental - Social - Governance (ESG) Standards, accompanying the National Strategy on Green Growth to 2030. Not stopping at commitments, Agribank takes practical action with priority credit packages for clean agriculture, renewable energy, sustainable production chains - towards the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
Agribank's contributions have been recognized through many noble awards: title of Hero of Labor in the renovation period (2003), Second Class Independence Medal (2008), First Class Labor Medal (2018, 2023) and high rankings in the ranking: many years in the Top 10 largest banks in Vietnam; Enterprise for the community; Top 50 largest enterprises in Southeast Asia...
The Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam is one of the typical collectives nominated for honor at the Vinh Quang Vietnam 2025 program.
Vinh Quang Vietnam is a special political - cultural - social event directed by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, in coordination with the Central Emulation and Reward Committee, assigned to Lao Dong Newspaper to organize annually since 2004. This year, the program enters its 21st tenure with the theme "Pride and Aspiration", to honor collectives and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the 80 years of building and defending the Fatherland, especially in the fields of digital economy, green economy, innovation and sustainable development.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 22, 2025 at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Labor Cultural Palace, Hanoi.
