Ms. Bui Thi Ha has been working at a company located in Trieu Khuc craft village cluster (Tan Trieu commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi) for 6 years now. During the past 6 years, every Tet holiday, Ms. Ha is picked up by the company's car to go to work in Hanoi.
According to Ms. Ha, before the Tet holiday, the company allowed all employees to register for a bus to return to work in the city. The company classified them by location, Thanh Hoa and Ninh Binh groups shared the same bus route; Ha Nam, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh groups shared the same bus route...
“I only had to travel 4km from my house in Duy Tien district to National Highway 1A to wait for the company car to pick me up. The driver called 1 hour in advance so I proactively prepared everything. I am very happy and proud of my family for this humane policy. During Tet, when traffic is difficult, the company picks me up every year to return to the city, so the workers are less worried and tired…”, Ms. Ha shared.
According to Ms. Ha, thanks to an acquaintance's introduction, she has worked for the company for 6 years now, with an initial salary of 6 million VND/month, now it is nearly 13 million VND/month. Many people advised her against working far from home because of the hardship, but she still sticks with the company because of the stable salary, good welfare policies, workers living far away can stay in a shared dormitory rented by the company, and have lunch at noon. "Back home, the salary of a worker is about 7-8 million VND/month, but I calculate that here I only spend money on dinner and a little living expenses, each month I save more than 10 million VND to send back home for my children's education," Ms. Ha said.
Carpooling support
Also creating conditions for workers to return to work, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung (from Lap Thach district, Vinh Phuc) and her colleagues were paid by the company to call a shared car to return to Hanoi to work.
Ms. Nhung has been working as a worker at a mechanical factory in Dong Anh district (Hanoi) for 4 years now. It has become a tradition that every year after Tet, the company facilitates workers to return to the city conveniently by paying for shared/convenient transportation.
“The price of the car is a little higher than usual, but as long as we have a receipt or transfer information, the company will pay in full on the first day of work. This concern warms everyone’s heart because the amount is not much, but it shows the desire for workers to return to work on schedule,” said Ms. Nhung.
Also having his company pay for his transportation back to the city, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Nghia from Thinh Long town (Hai Hau district, Nam Dinh province) said that for nearly ten years now, the company where he works has paid for the transportation of workers back to the factory.
“At first it was bus tickets, later we called for convenient buses, shared buses, the company paid the workers in full in any form. After Tet, the amount of a few hundred thousand dong was considered as lucky money from the company, everyone felt happy and excited,” Mr. Nghia said excitedly.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, Director of P.H Trading Company - where Ms. Bui Thi Ha works, said that for a private company, nearly 50% of the 80 employees have been with the company for over 10 years, which is a great source of pride. To achieve this commitment, for many years, Ms. Nga and the management have always tried to take care of the welfare policies for employees to the best of their ability.
"The amount of several hundred thousand dong spent on transportation for each worker returning to the city, including the company, is not a small amount, but we always try to maintain it, even maintain it better. We strive that from Tet 2026, workers returning to the city with children under 1 year old will have their taxi fares paid for," Ms. Nga revealed.
