Leverage technology to make work more efficient
Hanoi Irrigation Development Investment One Member Co., Ltd., Ms. Le Thi Hang and her colleagues used Google Maps software application in the management and exploitation of the irrigation system with the initial desire to accurately locate the locations of pumping stations and irrigation works managed by the company, and synthesize the technical parameters of the works.
After 3 months of research, measurement and testing, the research project was put into operation. After completing the technical parameters of the projects on the system, the map link will be sent to all officers and workers of the company for use. Leaders, employees and customers can easily view on their computers or personal phones to determine the coordinates of each irrigation project, capture the most typical images and summarize the technical parameters of the project without having to go to the site.
Applying technology to the operation of the irrigation system at Hanoi Irrigation Development Investment One Member Co., Ltd. has initially brought high efficiency in water regulation, contributing to the effective use of water resources, timely regulation of drainage, saving electricity consumption at pumping stations, promoting the industrialization and modernization of agriculture and rural areas...
Sharing about this, Ms. Hang and her colleagues said that taking advantage of technology, especially in the digital transformation era, brings great benefits and efficiency. When researching and applying it to work, especially using artificial intelligence (AI), it will help reduce the workload for workers... The problem here is that each worker needs to be proactive in the digital transformation process. In other words, it is necessary to pay attention to work, see which parts and factors can take advantage of technology to change in a positive direction...
PwC’s (PricewaterhouseCoopers) Hopes and Fears Global Workforce Survey 2023 found that workers in Vietnam are generally optimistic about the opportunities and benefits that AI can bring, with 60% agreeing that AI can improve their productivity in the workplace and 58% believing that AI opens up opportunities to learn new skills. However, there are also concerns that AI could lead to job losses in some sectors.
Improve workers' ability to access and master science and technology
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, who works for an electronic components manufacturing company, said that hearing about AI being able to do everything for humans made her quite worried. Originally from Bac Can, she has been working in Hanoi for nearly 6 years. “My job is stable, if I have to change now, I will probably go back to my hometown,” Ms. Lan Anh said.
Ms. Lan Anh said that in her boarding house, many people started taking advantage of the evenings when they didn’t have to work overtime to learn something else. Some studied accounting, others studied bartending. Everyone said they were preparing for the situation where machines completely replaced the production line and if they couldn’t find a job in a company, they would have another job to earn money to live.
Faced with the risks and concerns of workers, many industries have proactively proposed a number of solutions. One of them is the Vietnamese Textile and Garment industry. This is the largest and most labor-intensive industry compared to other industries, with about three million industrial workers, accounting for over 10% of the country's industrial labor force. Technological advances and automation in the Textile and Garment industry are changing the labor structure. Some traditional manual jobs are being replaced by automated machines.
This may result in a reduction in the number of workers and require existing workers to have higher technological skills. The problem is that the transfer of technology and automation in the Textile industry to suit the requirements of the global textile supply chain requires workers to have skills and the ability to adapt quickly to improve production processes and product quality, maintain competitiveness and efficiency in production.
According to the Vietnam Textile and Garment Trade Union, each group of workers requires different solutions, and general solutions cannot be applied to all groups of workers. The classification of workers associated with technology can be specified as workers who have not yet accessed technology; those participating in the technological chain; and those operating and supervising.
The continuation and upgrading from not having technological capacity to accessing, using, monitoring and mastering technology is a roadmap that requires appropriate solutions. The problem is how to provide young workers with understanding and access to new technologies, using technology and mastering supporting technologies to improve living standards and income in the context of many businesses laying off and reducing working hours for workers.
