Company fails bid, workers lose jobs
Due to failing to win the local environmental sanitation service package, Tra Vinh Urban Works Joint Stock Company was forced to cut labor, causing 110 workers to stop working waiting for contract termination according to regulations.
Among these, the situation of Mr. and Mrs. Doan Vinh Phuc (born in 1980, residing in Nhi Long commune) makes many people feel heartbroken when both lose their jobs. Mr. Phuc's family has 2 children in 11th and 12th grade, and their lives have long been mainly based on income from environmental sanitation work. Mr. Phuc said that losing their jobs near Tet puts the family in a passive position; if prolonged, their children's studies are at risk of being interrupted due to economic shortages. In middle age, finding a stable job is very difficult, and in the immediate future, they can only manage by working as freelancers.
Sharing the same situation, Ms. Lu Thi My Ly - an urban sanitation worker who has been attached to the company for nearly 10 years - said that although the job is hard, it is the main source of income for her family. Currently, she is taking care of her sick child, living expenses and treatment depend on labor wages. Sudden work stoppage makes her family's life even more difficult.
Ms. Lu Thi My Loan - Chairwoman of the grassroots Trade Union of Tra Vinh Urban Works Joint Stock Company - informed that as soon as there was information about workers stopping work, the grassroots Trade Union coordinated with the Company's Board of Directors to fully implement relevant regulations, ensuring the rights of workers. The regimes are implemented correctly and fully; at the same time, businesses and Trade Unions still pay Tet bonuses according to regulations as for working workers. The grassroots Trade Union has also reported to the Provincial Labor Federation to promptly grasp the situation and consider supporting workers facing difficulties.
Businesses promise to prioritize recruiting workers
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Pham Tiet Khoa - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tra Vinh Urban Works Joint Stock Company - shared that allowing 110 workers to stop working is an unfortunate decision when the enterprise did not win the bid for environmental sanitation service package in the locality. When there is no longer a corresponding workload, the company is forced to streamline labor to ensure production and business operations.
According to Mr. Khoa, most of the workers who have to stop working have been attached to the company for many years, many people are in difficult circumstances. Therefore, right from the time of implementing cuts, the enterprise has thoroughly implemented all regimes according to regulations, and at the same time shared and clearly informed the upcoming direction with employees.
In case the company wins new service packages or a workload arises, we will prioritize recruiting workers who have worked before, have experience and are attached to the unit" - Mr. Khoa affirmed.
Regarding supporting workers after quitting their jobs, Ms. Doan Thi Phuc - Deputy Director of Vinh Long Provincial Department of Home Affairs - said that when she learned that Tra Vinh Urban Works Joint Stock Company had 110 workers quitting their jobs due to labor streamlining, the department directed the Provincial Employment Service Center to proactively get involved.
According to Ms. Phuc, the Center will prioritize receiving information, consulting and introducing jobs for these workers when there are businesses and units in the area and surrounding areas recruiting suitable occupations.
In addition, workers are counseled on career orientation and supported in connecting vocational training if they need to change jobs.
The Department of Home Affairs will coordinate with relevant agencies to closely monitor the situation, not allowing workers to be unemployed for a long time, affecting life and social security" - Ms. Phuc emphasized.
