Losing a job when Tet is approaching
Having been attached to the job of urban sanitation worker for nearly 20 years, Ms. Pham Thi Thuy Oanh - Tra Vinh Urban Works Joint Stock Company - was shocked when she received a work stoppage notice right at the time of Tet approaching.
Education level is only 7/12, without professional skills to change jobs, so after losing their jobs, Ms. Oanh's family faced many difficulties. Currently, she and her husband are taking care of their elderly mother over 80 years old, who is often sick, and living expenses mainly depend on labor wages.
Ms. Oanh's family also has her father and the younger sister's husband working at the company. The fact that many workers in the same family are affected makes life even more difficult, and it is not known how to manage in the near future.
Sharing the same situation is Mr. and Mrs. Doan Vinh Phuc, residing in Nhi Long commune. Both Mr. and Mrs. Phuc are on the list of 110 workers who must stop working this time of the unit.
Mr. Phuc was born in 1980, currently raising two children who are in 11th and 12th grade. The educational door of his children is at risk of closing due to economic exhaustion.
With his current age and health, applying to factories with fixed salaries is extremely difficult. He can only work as a freelancer with unstable and unstable income. "I hope the company considers keeping one of the couples working together," Mr. Phuc expressed his small wish to reduce economic pressure on his family.
Commitment to prioritizing re-recruitment
At the strike announcement meeting, a quiet atmosphere enveloped when many workers who had been attached for decades could not hide their emotions. They were sad not only because of losing their jobs, but also because of the disappointment when they had to leave their familiar jobs, once seeing the company as a second home.
Discussing this issue, Mr. Pham Tiet Khoa - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tra Vinh Urban Works Joint Stock Company - said that due to not winning the local sanitation package bid, the company could not arrange more work for the existing redundant labor force, so it was forced to cut 110 personnel.
According to Mr. Khoa, allowing workers to stop working is a mandatory solution to maintain the minimum operation of the apparatus. Currently, the company is carrying out work stoppage procedures in accordance with legal regulations.
Mr. Khoa admitted that losing his job near Tet is when workers face the most difficulties. However, the unit can only make payments in accordance with current regulations of the State. "The company commits to prioritizing re-recruiting old workers if they win new service packages," Mr. Khoa added.

Regarding this bidding package, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Van Thanh - Head of the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department of Tra Vinh Ward - said that the bidding package "Sweeping, collection, and transportation of domestic waste in Tra Vinh Ward in 2026" was opened on January 5, organized in the form of a domestic open bidding. This bidding package has a implementation period of 12 months, the bidding package price is more than 25.5 billion VND, the bidding review unit is the Tra Vinh Planning and Construction Appraisal Center, the investor is the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Department of Tra Vinh Ward.
