The sports festival for workers, civil servants, and laborers in An Giang province gathered 61 teams with more than 1,100 athletes participating in 5 sports, creating a vibrant emulation atmosphere among union members and laborers (NLĐ). This is a practical activity to celebrate the 97th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union (July 28, 1929 - July 28, 2026).
According to the An Giang Provincial Labor Federation, the opening ceremony of the sports festival will take place on the morning of July 25 at the An Giang Provincial Multi-purpose Sports Center (Rach Gia ward). The football event starts today (July 22) at An Giang Provincial Stadium (Rach Gia ward).
After more than 3 weeks of implementing the plan and regulations of the sports festival, the Organizing Committee has received positive response from grassroots trade unions throughout the province. Up to now, athletes have registered to participate in 5 sports, including: football, women's soft volleyball, badminton, tug of war and basketball shooting.
A noteworthy point of this year's sports festival is that many athlete delegations from localities far from the provincial center have proactively arranged work, traveled long distances to Rach Gia ward to participate in competitions. This shows the spread of the sports movement among union members and workers, and at the same time reflects the concern of Party committees, authorities, agencies, units, businesses and employers in caring for the spiritual life of union members and workers.
Professional work, schedule, referees, stadiums, facilities, celebrations, logistics, health, security, communication and bonus plans for each sport are carefully reviewed. Sub-committees are assigned specific tasks, regularly check progress and promptly handle arising situations to ensure the sports festival takes place safely, in accordance with regulations and effectively.
According to the Organizing Committee, the sports festival is not only aimed at the goal of competition, but more importantly, it creates motivation for the movement of physical training in the team of officials, civil servants, public employees and workers to continue to develop deeply and widely. The Organizing Committee expects that after the sports festival, physical training will become a regular activity at grassroots trade unions; each athlete will be the nucleus to spread the spirit of physical training, contributing to building a team of workers, public employees, and laborers who are physically healthy and mentally strong, meeting the development requirements in the new period.
