On March 8, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) in coordination with Vietnam Electricity Trade Union organized a launching ceremony to compete in completing the construction progress goals of the National Grid Power Supply Project for Con Dao district (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province).
Attending the ceremony were Mr. Lam Van Man - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee; Ms. Thai Thu Xuong - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; leaders of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, the People's Committee of Con Dao district, leaders of Vietnam Electricity Group, leaders of Vietnam Electricity Trade Union, leaders of the Power 3 Project Management Board and construction contractors along with many delegates, units participating in project implementation and workers at the construction site.

The project has a total investment of VND4,923 billion, expected to be completed and energized in 2025. The scale of the project includes a 110kV line of 103.7km long, including 17.5km of overhead line through Soc Trang, 77.7km of underground cables across the sea and 8.5km of underground cables on Con Dao island. The project also includes the expansion of Vinh Chau 220kV transformer station (Soc Trang) and the construction of a 110/22kV GIS transformer station in Con Dao.
Con Dao is a locality with a strategic position in terms of national defense, security and island sovereignty, and is also an important tourist destination. The current power system of the island district mainly relies on diesel with limited capacity (11.8 MW), not meeting the needs of socio-economic development. After completion, the project will supply power to Con Dao with a total capacity of about 29MW in 2026, 55MW in 2030 and 90MW in 2035.

Speaking at the ceremony, EVN leaders emphasized the importance of the project and launched an emulation movement with the goal of completing the items in 2025. EVN requires the Power Project Management Board 3, contractors, suppliers and design consultants to focus resources, construct continuously 24/7, and closely coordinate with competent authorities to remove difficulties, especially in site clearance and handover of coastal areas.

Speaking at the ceremony, Soc Trang Provincial Party Secretary Lam Van Man emphasized that the project is of great significance in ensuring a stable and safe power source for Con Dao, contributing to socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security and serving the country's growth goals. Soc Trang province is committed to fully supporting the project, from promoting legal procedures to creating favorable conditions for construction, especially in site clearance. Mr. Man called on local authorities and people to support and coordinate to complete the project on schedule, ensuring the goal of power outage by September 2, 2025.

Ms. Thai Thu Xuong - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, suggested that the Vietnam Electricity Trade Union continue to coordinate with EVN, direct relevant units to urge progress, remove obstacles, ensure labor safety and care for the lives and health of workers.
The Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor also proposed promoting emulation movements, creating an enthusiastic working atmosphere, ensuring working, accommodation and living conditions for workers throughout the construction process and requiring construction units to strictly comply with regulations on labor safety.
The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor is committed to paying attention to directing and having policies to visit and encourage union members and workers at the construction site; rewarding and encouraging collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Electricity Trade Union launched an emulation campaign to complete the construction progress goals of the National Grid Power Supply Project for Con Dao district (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province).
