On the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of At Ty, Vang On village, one of the particularly difficult villages and hamlets in Tuyen Quang province, was lit up.
With a location far from the center, mountainous terrain, and difficult transportation, for more than 30 years, electricity has not been able to reach the people of Vang On.
Mr. Trang Truong Luong, Vang On village, said that before there was no electricity grid, families had to use various sources such as small generators placed under the stream, solar power, and even batteries. High-power electrical devices could not be used.
"Without electricity, economic development is very difficult. Now I'm happy, the whole village has electricity, and TVs and refrigerators can be used. I plan to buy an electric corn grinder to serve the people," Mr. Luong shared.
Also according to Mr. Giang Seo Sinh, Head of Vang On village, the village was established in 1993 with two main ethnic groups, Mong and Dao, and to date the poverty rate is still the highest in the commune at 75%. Without electricity or concrete roads, life is difficult.
Looking at the row of electric poles leading to the village with bright eyes, the head of Vang On village, Mr. Giang Seo Sinh, excitedly said: "After more than 30 years of having electricity, the desire of the villagers has come true. Many households have plans to buy machinery to develop the economy and escape poverty."
The Power Line and Transformer Station project supplying electricity to Vang On village under the Rural Electricity Supply Project from the National Grid of Tuyen Quang province in the period of 2013-2020 was started on May 28, 2024. The total investment of 13.5 billion VND is invested by the Department of Industry and Trade of Tuyen Quang province.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Hoang Duc Tien - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Tuyen Quang province said that during the construction process, despite many difficulties in terrain, the units were determined to complete the project in the fastest time.
"We aim to have the power turned on before Tet At Ty 2025 to bring joy to the people of Vang On. Having national grid power will also help people transform their production structure, gradually narrowing the development gap between regions in a sustainable way," Mr. Tien informed.
The power line and transformer station project to supply electricity to Vang On village has been put into use, which means that Tuyen Quang province has completed the goal of 100% of villages and hamlets in the province having access to the national grid.
